"Surprise attack"

Frans B. van Blokland was woken up by sharp ring of his telephone. Who could call at this hour, he wondered. Monotonous voice in the receiver dispelled all doubts. Frans hung on the phone and cursed at himself. What could Hirohito possibly need from him at this hour. Frans ordered his housekeeper to wake up driver and prepare car. Luckily capital wasn't the city that never sleeps and he get to the Imperial palace without any hindrance. To his surprise he find that everybody was already there. Machida, Le Quan, Satoru, even Chief of Navy Mohanna was here, despite the fact he had meeting with Khalil el-Wazir at Singapore next, or more like this afternoon. He greeted everyone and sit down at last empty chair.
Gentlemen, we have a situation, started Hirohito. As some of you may already now yesterday, in 11th May France has declared war on Oceania.

As we predicted moths ago, interrupted Frans, did I win the bet ? What you may not know, continued Hirohito, is that Finland, Georgia and Prussia have declared war too. Room fell silent for a moment. In fact only Mohanna stone face and James smirk didn't change a muscle.
Can our expert in foreign matters explain this, asked Hirohito, studying him with his steady gaze...He couldn't.
But that doesn't change a thing, interrupted Satoru. We are ready, navy are ready, air force is already bombing the enemy if we can believe words of our chief of the air force. Give me week and our troops will be in California, Seattle and San Diego.
It isn't that simple Satoru, James interrupted him. We have found out that Georgians have massed 20-30 divisions in North America. Can you guarantee that we will take a piece of American industry, will EastAsian troops seize the Texan oil fields ? We can't start the war if we get the least out of it.

Where did you get this information, James, Frans couldn't refrain to ask. Various sources, James smiled, and on this one I got a little help from naval intelligence as well.
Have Axis and Allies been undertaking naval buildup lately, Keisuke asked, it may well be that combined strength of Italian and Norwegian fleets are enough to deny any supplies and reinforcements for this force.
We are almost sure that Axis fleets are nothing more than coastal guards, Mohanna took this one on himself, we have little information about French naval strength. We can only assume they haven't been completely idle if they planned to combat worlds 3rd and 4th most powerful fleets. I can give no definite answer if high seas will be controlled by Oceania, but their European possessions are unguardable, even they are willing to sacrifice whole fleet.
Does that matter, Machida nervously stirred in his chair, question remain - what do we do ?
Hirohito took a moment. We can't allow France to conquer England or allow Georgians to have monopoly of all worlds oil production, but I fear that immediate attack will result in exactly that. We will wait.

It was already dawn, when Frans woke up his tired driver and ordered to drive home. Meeting went going on for a good hour, but conclusion remained the same. Do nothing. It was only month later when French came forward with peace deal for all involved sides. Frans envied Grattan skills, not only he had secured alliance with recent enemies, he also convinced them to, as it later turned out, sacrifice 28 divisions and still get most of peace deal if Norway would choose to accept it. Now it was in Norwegian hands to spoil their triumph.

Here is industrial strength of all alliances. Oceania surprisingly still ahead, even with all their European possessions in French and Axis hands.

Call me cynical, but Indonesia's brother abandoning his ally, staunch since living memory, to turn against him in a global stab? There's a pair of evil twins running around in this game, who can you trust? :eek:o

I was certain France or East Asia would lunge at one another in this way. I like to believe KoM has the political savvy that he would not just wipe France from the map, but try to gain something for Oceania from this. What will that be, I wonder?

World alliances shift so much with this, I am not really sure what will happen. I cant have too much sympathy for France, striking against the beloved Ynglings as he did was to tempt fate.

Did finland's peace treaty keep scandinavia? Horrible scandal, if so! I am in little position to comment; I'll have to know more to speculate further.

Edit; Didnt Magnus come to Norway with the trolls, just in time for it to fall to Finland? How do they feel about all this?

And, isnt an uptimer due for 1941? What a convoluted set of developments for s/he to be dropped into..

Unfortunately, the military position in the field is such that Norway demands no more of France than the return of the occupied provinces. This is partly because I suck, and mainly because for some reason I was suddenly unable to rebase to Italian naval bases, and thus Europe was outside of transport range for me. Vastly annoying.

However, the EastAsians are demanding rather more onerous terms: Italy and Spain to be freed, Germany restored to the 1905 borders. Incidentally, this probably makes for two new player nations which are at least halfway viable, should anyone be interested. Of course, the negotiations are not complete yet.

As for Scandinavia, the end is not yet.

The axis terms are:
Free Italy, Free spain.
Germany to 1905 borders minus Scandinavian ones (those to Finland)
Prussia to 1905 Borders
venice and Ferrrare to Georgia

I doubt this will happen though, Eastasians promised Spain to Quebec as it is his cores. And Eastasia probably will have the final word in the negotiations given that they were ones to make any noticable gains.

And doesnt Prussias 1905 borders include corridor to Adriatic sea?

Oh Von Rundstedt, I have failed you.
Not even he would have won that war. The last neutral alliance DoWing you, the alliance fighting alongside you stabbing you in the back, even one member of your own alliance switching sides... there's no shame in losing such a war.

The French fought valiantly to the end, in Newfoundland, in Brazil, in Italy, in Spain. I salute thee

At the time when East Asians did the occupation, Axis tied over 200 divisions in the eastern front...Everyone in the coalition did his share, and I thank and graduate everyone of them

The Quepecian claims have been aknowlidged and included in the Free Spain part

Indeed, I was a fool to trust him. I should have seen it coming though, since he has pulled the same trick before.

My greatest error though, was not having a coherent defense strategy. Simply garrisoning my southern beaches with my spare troops would have made an invasion from sea impossible (since everyone seem to suck at amphibious assaults). But, alas, c'est la vie. Life goes on and the end is not yet

Well, while probably true, it's easy to say that after things are done. Sometimes one has to take a chance. No guts, no glory.

What I find interesting is the finn making his ambitions and his past history so apparent.

If he was credited by his companions, you'd think they'd stop to dismember him. (And yeah, France, I think you should have seen the finn stab coming, although the quebecois one was..foul. Golle isnt a particularly subtle diplomat, ah.)

I wasn't particularly surprised by the treachery of the axis. What surprised me (and shouldn't have), was the speed and efficiency of the East Asian attack. My army and airforce was in complete disarray and having to manage 2.5 fronts while creating an ad hoc structure for an army that was at the wrong place meant that I could not make effective use of my air force. Thus, even though I had the means, I could not achieve air superiority, and thus, I lost the battle on the ground.
