I have had the pleasure and the opportunity to both be allied and to fight both of them. They are both skilled players, and I don't see anything significant changing with the worlds balance of power.

I do say I sorta of like a change up every now and then, Russia just had Stalin being assassinated, and now the Emperor being replaced in Japan....

One wonders what will happen next...

well in my case, Ive actually never played against jodokius in Pdox games...wich is really odd now as I think of it...
But edzako is good player in both Hoi2/Vicky and much of Japanese rise credits to his outstanding work in Vicky phase...
He also refers Jakalo always the more 'unpredictable' one...So guess its dull time finaly;)
And lets make it 14 years in next session shall we?:D

So I'm away this week and don't have time for a story AAR, but here's some screenies from the Oceania/EastAsia war of 1949.

First, the initial fighting in Finland. I must admit I was expecting success on this front, but the Shanxi proved too tough. It seems I organised my armies badly - not enough officers, so the 2-to-1 odds are not really working in my favour. Then, of course, although I've told the joke before, it's no damn joke to try to push through that terrain in this weather.

Somewhat later, after the Shanxi counterattack:

Observe that a female general - one of the notorious "tough Yngling bitches" - has now taken command, and the battle is going much better for my side. However, we can clearly fight it out on this front all summer, and the whole year therewith; hence my brilliant plan:

NSRAN_Arkhangelsk_Landing.jpg

The Arkhangelsk Landing! And indeed, it goes quite well for a while:

NSRAN_Arkhangelsk_Advance.jpg

But alas. I've left it too late in the year. The Shanxi desperately move troops into my path, but the real killer is General Winter:

NSRAN_Arkhangelsk_Snow.jpg

I'll post nothing more from this front.

Golle's comment, here, on the Quebecian strategy of distraction, is very apposite:

NSRAN_England_1949.jpg

but unfortunately Falador was also able to land in less well defended places. Here's a tense moment during the Second Surge:

NSRAN_France_1950.jpg

You can't see them, but my troops are just recently victorious in England, and I'm struggling to find a way through the Japanese blockade to get them across to France to repair the broken front. We eventually succeeded in stopping them, but only on the German border.

It's not that I'm vindictive. But I admit I was a bit annoyed at this point. Hence I decided to try out the Big Effing Missiles that the Dovre Rocket Base had spent so many years developing - all in preparation for the eventual battle with the Moon-Georgians, of course, but meanwhile we have these war missiles.

NSRAN_Russia_after.jpg

One-fourth of Russia's industry suppressed; boo-yah! That'll teach Ivan to put everything in One Big Factory; they're perfect targets for One Big Missile.

Finally, a look at the German front, paying attention to both sides of a particular battle:

NSRAN_Lvov_Germany.jpg

You'll observe that the modifiers are not very different. It's the damn mechs which are killing the German troops.

And Mechs and Armor cost less manpower to build than inf -at least in Vanilla-, so they also cost less manpower to repair...10% mech cost less MP to repair than 10% inf..To top it off, being hard units, they take less str.loss than inf do...So Strategically all should push for that type of unit. Of course, Inf is earlier to research up to worthwhile combat stats, and also faster to build.."Zerg-rush"..
As far as I can tell from your reports, MP has been the limiting factor for some of you for quite a few years, now.
Also the combined arms bonus is another nifty thing to get..Just from organizing your troops a little bit, you can get another 5% on attack and 15% on defense..I'm wondering why Japan doesn't have it here? The first six show a perfect relationship between mech. and motinf. -of course, that is moddable too. I only know the Vanilla numbers..
That initial attack in Finland, what inf-tech were you and him?

Right now I'm wondering why everybody sticks to the 'AT brigades are worthless' doctrine of single player. If you're fighting Japan, you're fighting over 50% of hard units, making AT brigades worthwile.

Sigh. I had a beautiful army-build plan, to start in 1941 when my factories were complete. It had MEC, ARM, enough MOT for the combined-arms bonus, FTR and TAC air support, infantry mainly in their specialised roles, and a bit of vanilla stuff for coast defense. Then France attacked me in 1940 and I was scrambling for troops right now. I ended up with a lot of militia and vanilla inf. Since then I've had no periods of sustained peace, and I've been scrambling to catch up in hard units and aircraft; what's worse, I've lost quite a few in encirclements, and aircraft to being jumped by 30 Japanese fighters. All that said, I've no idea why France has so much infantry - it made some sense in 1940 when they were rushing Oceania, but by now they're MP-limited and could really do with some IC-intensive troops.

For the fighting in Finland, by the end I had the 1951 tech but couldn't upgrade my troops fast enough, so the actual fighting was done by 1947 troops on both sides. Ah, the joys of technological superiority!

As for AT, my plan has always been to oppose hard with hard and use infantry for line-of-communications work and static defense. So I did Art research instead of AT. If I'd known then what I know now, I might have worked differently. I do note, though, that Japan is only one nation, and if I end up fighting France, Germany, or Malaysia I will be glad of my Art-heavy infantry.
