A roadmap is a good way to put it. I already weakened my claims concerning this but i think players should have an outlook what will the most probable switch.

In my opinion if he would have another player slot all our probs would be solved probably.:)
Could make for a permanent Portugese player which would finally allow us to see a 5 power-colonial game!

Apart from that the question of the intial setup is solved. What troubles me still if my ideas of no diploannex of Brandenburg and Prussia is too harsh?

I still plan to finish the MGC4. We could probably do it in an evening and a saturday or sunday session. Once the lessons have been learnt from the next patch I will then sit down and see if any ammendments or rules are still required as many of them have been superceeded by the latest patch. It would be good to see if lessons can be learnt from other games as well to save hassle of things going wrong. But I'll keep you posted Laexmachine.

I think that if Prussia and Brandenberg get annexed then so be it. I wouldnt be surprised if they get released by someone at some point to serve a political cause for one reason or another.

Not after they have been converted to Catholicism.:)

A very good point. Well perhaps Portugal should be switched for someone else like Poland at the beginning, who can then become the Netherlands. There is a good arguement I think for believing that a human Portugal can do more harm than good to the balance of colonialism (they helped me as France colonise half of Africa and India in the DoN's game for example), and as you say, much of what Portugal wants to colonise, the Dutch will want too.

A Portugal sharing maps with anyone is not a good idea. Ally with Spain and build up a colonial empire! Why someone would play the french card is a miracle to me but that´s me.

Because it's fun ;) Games where you just grow powerful and win by the same method generally becomes booring pretty quickly, so people will look for change. Like allying with france and take on spain, demanding provinces to portugal. Or somethin like that ;)

I tend to concentrate very much on diplomacy. All other aspects of the game are great.
But the possibility of 8-player interaction with so much options is the thing which is fasciniating me.

You know where TheArchduke comes from?

From the game "Diplomacy".

A good Portugal can act just like Holland, but start earlier.

Holland adds late game explorations and such as you say...but really how much is left to colonize by the time she comes around.

Yea she can add alot of fun to the game....but so can Portugal if she isn't Spains lapdog (and there are ways to stop that).

And the trade wars with portugal are almost just as good.

Plus its fun to build portugal to uber-powerful.

Ok recent development have made that thread obsolete as it seems that more than 8 player gaming is enabled.
Question now is how much countries can be played will maintaining reasonable speed and which should there be?

With larger number of countries, there is bigger need for diplomacy time, so slower speed is not that bad.

I don't even want to imagine peace negotiations with 12+players. Pure mess:D

Btw, about ROTW, what about adding Timurids/Mughlas and China?

Now, if anything could stop landgrabbing in Asia, it would definitly be them ;)

Especialy with Peter Ebessen Asian manpower mod.

China is too strong, really. In a 1492 setup, China can launch a credible attack on England around 1497-1500. :D

But the addition of Persia* and/or the Timurids, now that would be something. It sure would make Indian expansion by Europeans more chancy - unless they stayed on good terms with the local potentates, or brought a bigger army :)

And my manpower mod should, of course, be used :D

Hmmm. I think I will prepare a 1492 save game for 24 players using the manpower mod and forced creation of Persia, just to see what it looks like. If it looks nice, I will put it up for download.

If you can get it ready for early tomorrow morning you could find fans encamped on your lawn.....

I think an 11 player set up would be just fine.

In the game Wyvern is talking about i was the first surprised by this turning of events, because portugal exchanged maps in the very beginning of the game, prior to any diplomatic attempt of me.

I actually have DEN on my orginal desktop version, but then I thought I would get howls from the masses if I posted that and deleted it.
