OK, a fairly arbitary decision by myself, I have decided to name the countries in their native tongues. (some would say pointless, but hey thats me)

So, if any-one can help by providing EU2 TAGs in native tongue that would be much appreciated.

For example, I have....

HAB: Austria = Osterreich
WLS: Wales = Cymru
SCO: Scotland = Alba
POL: Poland = Polska (is that right?)
SPA: Spain = Espana (?)
NIP: Nippon = Nihon
KOR: Korea = Koryo
VEN: Venice = Venezia
GEN: Genoa = Genova

As I said, any input for this folly would be highly appreciated ;) :D

FIN - Suomi

And isn't Korea - Chosan or something? I heard that Japan changed the transcription to a K for the '36 olympics so the Korean troop wouldn't get to enter the stadium before the Japanese.

Dai Viet was Dai Viet IIRC, but I can look it up this evening.

For scotland, it's worth remembering that while "Alba" mands "Scotland" in Gaelic, in Scots, it's just "Scotland" (or "Sco'lan'" if you were going for pronunciation ;)). While not being an Expert on Scottish History, I think that Scots and English were the common languages in the Capital, so you may wish to leave Scotland as it is...

That said...
Switzerland - Schweiz
Albania - Shqiperia
Bosnia - Bosna
Herzegovenia - Hercegovina

For any countries that are still around, I'd suggest the CIA factbook:
http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/index.html
It includes the local names.

And of course:
United States - America

And the US is the US not America - America is the continent.
Most Americans call their country the US or United States of America as its official name; they say America only as a shortened version cos they too lazy to say United States...
If any Americans call their country America and mean it as the official name in their "native" tongue then that is just arrogance and pomposity rather than what really is...those are prolly the same people who think the US invented everything.

Delaware is not a Native American name. Exploring the Atlantic coast
north of Jamestown in 1610, Captain Samuel Argall discovered a large bay
which he named in honor of Sir Thomas West, Third Lord de la Warr and the first governor of the Virginia. Apparently, Governor West was unimpressed
with this honor and returned to England without ever bothering to gaze upon his namesake. However, the name stuck. English colonists later used Delaware for the bay, the river and the native peoples who lived there. The Delaware called themselves Lenape translated either as "original people" or "true men."

Greece I believe is "Hellas" (Or Ellas or Ellada), like the province.
Ellas is probably the correct one...

I seem to recall some-where that Koryo was named after some dynasty that 'founded the modern state. (i will have to find out where I read this.) The Taehan-min'guk was from a a site about modern countries and that was the 'local' term for Korea overall though South Koreans refered to themselves as something else.
