It's a question of effort. But, since it only affects most midrange laptops, and laptops are only like 55% of the computers sold today, i guess it's not worth it...to small a niche.
I have to say I agree with this, and I felt the same when Civ IV was released.
I've got a high-end gaming PC, and the graphics are nice I'm not denying and really do add to the game if you've got a PC that can play them without problems.
But.. the gameplay doesn't
require them, and it's the sort of game that appeals to a lot of people who aren't much interested in the latest graphics intensive fps titles, and therefore haven't spent their hardearned on the requisite hardware. A basic alternate 2D interface would be fine for these people, not to mention anyone who wants to play it on a standard laptop.
I realise it's stupid for me to say it makes business sense to people who are in that business, but I guess I just don't understand why it doesn't happen.
