I like to name my rulers the same name, as I am sure others do too, but when you have a long reign and your grandchildren are born you can't name them because they are not your kids. Is there a mod that enables this or would this be something that is going to be added in the future content? Maybe like a event that triggers where you pressure your children to name their kids after you?

I let the mothers name them all, I like to see how wierd the names get after a few generations.

Well I guess it makes sense in that when my Daughter had her kids, she told me to shush on names I recommended, but from a fun game stand point, I can see how you would like this!!
You gotta think medieval though. Dynasty head (who you usually play) could probably name his own grandchildren (exceptions being daughters', since they left the court). Of course, this is all speculation and I didn't read anything about it.
This is one of the many reasons I almost always go elective and put my youngest on the throne. Usually I get to play him in time before he screws everything up.
To be honest i think its fine the way it is as i can't see a ruler really caring what the grand kids are called however....
Much in the way there are already rules in the game for higer chances of kids being named after their father in some cultures there could be a modifier to increase chances of your vassels naming kids after the ruler (aka you). It could be based on your prestiege or your opinion but would be realistic that people would likely name their kids after popular rulers as people still do now only over celebrities.

I think rulers should be able to choose a regnal name upon accession to the throne. Not everyone took their birth name as the one they would be referred to as King or Queen.
I think regnal names make a lot of since. They happened often enough in Europe either because a long-lived dynasty had a few traditional names or because the local people wouldn't accept a foreign name, like Anund-Jakob of Sweden. It was even more common in the Middle East where naming conventions in general tended to be more... fluid. Plus you also have the Ethiopian Negusa-Nagast (Emperor) who always took a Throne Name upon their accession.
I really hate to get stuck with a name I think is awful like Stenkil or Cuccio or having a name of another culture that didn't translate because the game doesn't have the proper equivalencies. The later is a major problem in dealing with the Welsh because for some reason even though almost all their names are Latin/Hebrew in origin there are like no equivalencies for them.
Yes, I believe that the player should be able to rename, ingame, whoever they are playing at the moment, I really don't care about the names of anyone else, just MY "guy," that would make me a happy boy.
I would so love to see this implemented. I'm stuck with an heir called Aedhilre now...for crying out loud, you should be called Konan muppet!
If you really wanted to, you could make a mod file that modifies the names file. that file has the percentage likelihood that any given character is named after their father, grandfather, mother, or grandmother. You could just set your mod to have 100% chance of children of your culture named after their father. You could either switch it every time you play a s a new culture, or just have the mod do that for every culture no matter what. It's kind of a gamey fix for it, but it would work. I'll even make it in a few days if you want.
You can always save edit. That said, if we started a game where we each ate an oreo every time this subject came up, we'd all be 400 pounds inside a month <.<
I understand your frustration but I actually tend to like that aspect of the game, myself. It's good to see some things I actually don't have control over. Besides, isn't it cool when your son names his son after you? While some names, sure, can be weird or something. But you could build a story to go with that funny or strange name, making it worthy of a II or III in the future.
You can note the day when your child/their spouse gets pregnant. From then on, save the game monthly and when the baby is born, load the last save as them, naming the baby. Then do the same to go back to yourself. This only works if either one of them is landed though.
I've never really cared about this before but in my current Abbadid game, I'm in a never ending pattern of rulers alternating between being called Abbad and Muhammad, it'd be nice just to force a combo breaker before I get up to like Sultan Abbad XVI.
