How would this work? Do you type in your choice? Even though that's great customization, people would end up naming them vulgar names. A list of choices, maybe? I have no idea how Paradox should do this.

Random or choice would likely be taken from region-specific lists put in .csv files (easily edited).

Customization could then be to click on the name and type in your own choice (changing it). And if people want vulgar names in the privacy of their own homes - what's the problem? They might just as well want to rename their dynasty after their own family..

I think that there is nothing wrong in full customization.

If you don't like it you just don't use this option.

If someone wants to use vulgar names he/she can always edit files in Paradox games. It's not so hard to add somethning in EUII.

Well I hope we'll have the choice between a list of historical names and giving our own names.

For example, if we consider the Capetian dynasty, early names such as Hugues or Robert disappeared when Philippe the 1st decided to emphasize a continuity with the Carolingians (the first Capetian Louis was Phlippe's son Louis VI the Fat, while Louis V had been the last Carolingian King before Hugues was elected.) I for one would like to stick to early capetian names (Robert, Hugues, Eudes...)

But also when I play a country I'm not totally familiar with (for example Serbia) then I'd be glad to have a list to chose from

I agree with you fully. Who cares of all those 14-year-olds that'll name their heirs Biggus Dickus or something equally silly?

The Sid Meier's Civilization way of naming new cities would work for me. An historical name is given to you, but you're free to change it if you wish. I for one want a He-Man and a Chewbacca, at least in minor branches of my dynasty.

That would be great. Playing as Poland I would like to be able creating my own names for future kings and queens.

Or after conquest of Egypt it will be great if I can give a princess of my dynsaty name Hatshepsut or for one of princes name Tuthmosis.

Maybe he means vulgar in terms of ordinary or vernacular or of the common people. I could see the rest of Noble Europe getting worried when Common Ron, Tilly the Housekeeper, or Frank the Regular Bloke ascends the throne. ;)

I am going to take George Foreman's idea to the next level and name every single person--male or female--Dorsey. And yes that applies throughout the centuries of CK to all generations.

I can see family gatherings being one long line of confusing mistakes...

One thing I wondered - is it possible to also give your heirs an epiphet? Like "The Good", "The Fat" or (my particular Scandinavian favourite) "Hairy Breeches"?

Speaking of names, I had a quick question. I heard that you can educate your princes at schools and such, but does the same go for your daughters? And, will the actual members of the royal family still have their exact heir, or will it be a random child?

I don't know about your first question, but for the second: Only people that were alive at scenario start will be historical, all others will be random. So children already born at scenario start (at the level researched, probably only royals) will be in, but if they were born later, say in 1068, then tough cookies they'll never exist

are there only kings or queens too?

I hope family lines can die out, but for broader playability reasons I doubt it... or if it can happen it will be extremely difficult.

As for last names there will be a dynasty name no doubt.

And everyone christian and noble is playable... kings, queens, Dukes, Counts, Barons, Viscounts.... if they own land and are noble christians they are playable.
Republics and merchant federations and muslims aren't playable.
