I've been reading these posts for months now, but only now did I feel I needed to got o the trouble to register and give my opinion. First, good job to those responsible for EU and a really good job to those who are bringing me EU2. EU is honestly one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. If I took the time to think about it, it might even be no.1. I always tend to be picky when it comes to historical accuracy in my games, but the designers here have pleased me very well. However, the one thing that did annoy me, and I know it sounds petty, but it really did, is the inability to change names of armies, navies, cities, or provinces. Now I realize, from what has been said so far, that I only need to use a text editor to edit my saved game file. Parden me for sounding... uneducated, but I really don't know much about editing anything on a computer, unless it is a thesis. And I am sure I am not the only historian gamer that has this problem. I would love to see an easy in game way to edit those names. Yeah, it really did bother me to have same name for three armies or raise a home guard in my colony on Formosa. I generally had to change this by moving around the armies so that the Army of the Baltic is actually operating near the Baltic instead of the Caspian Sea. Or by creating a lot of small armies and keep the ones with names I like and joining the others into those.
But the real annoyance comes from not being able to change the names of cities and territories. If I colonize Canton, I want Hong Kong, not New Amsterdam or Lancaster. And if I capture the territory of an enemy. I want to rename it with a territory more befitting my country. Names of cities and territories change quite often over time. Think about it: Is it Instanbul or Constantinople? Or is it Byzantium? Or maybe I would like to rename a certain city St.Petersburg or even Petrograd, if I have something against the German spelling. I mean, if we have the power to rewrite the history of our favorite little nations, shouldn't we be able to rewrite the names or a couple cities?
I also understand that there may be technical difficulties involved in allowing that. If so, then fine, it is still a great game, and maybe it can be worked into a patch or a sequel. That's all. Keep up the good work guys!
