Weird, Owl...never had that problem. I don't think the file is kept open by EU unless it's saving or loading. If it is it might be a bug or something.

I had the same problem than owl. I can't save any change in a savegame if the game is running....

Well...for some reason, I assumed you could change the name of armies. I just thought that last time I was annoyed by armies name in EUI. It seemed simple to me and since it had been asked for a lot of times...I believed it would be done. I'm dissapointed.

Regiments served all over the place. The Scots Guards or the Kings own Scottish Borderers fought all over the world. The name comes from where they originated.

What we need is a highly expanded list of army names. No messing with DirectX and keying in names etc.

Convincing Paradox?

Yes, he is right. Just because Paradox are being criticised doesn't make the criticism invalid.

At the end of the day this is a minor thing. But it's something that would enhance the program as a *game*, even if not as a *simulation*. It should have been added before, it hasn't been, and it should be added ASAP.

But I'm not holding my breath.

I *am* looking forward to playing EUII though!
Steve.

I've been reading these posts for months now, but only now did I feel I needed to got o the trouble to register and give my opinion. First, good job to those responsible for EU and a really good job to those who are bringing me EU2. EU is honestly one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. If I took the time to think about it, it might even be no.1. I always tend to be picky when it comes to historical accuracy in my games, but the designers here have pleased me very well. However, the one thing that did annoy me, and I know it sounds petty, but it really did, is the inability to change names of armies, navies, cities, or provinces. Now I realize, from what has been said so far, that I only need to use a text editor to edit my saved game file. Parden me for sounding... uneducated, but I really don't know much about editing anything on a computer, unless it is a thesis. And I am sure I am not the only historian gamer that has this problem. I would love to see an easy in game way to edit those names. Yeah, it really did bother me to have same name for three armies or raise a home guard in my colony on Formosa. I generally had to change this by moving around the armies so that the Army of the Baltic is actually operating near the Baltic instead of the Caspian Sea. Or by creating a lot of small armies and keep the ones with names I like and joining the others into those.
But the real annoyance comes from not being able to change the names of cities and territories. If I colonize Canton, I want Hong Kong, not New Amsterdam or Lancaster. And if I capture the territory of an enemy. I want to rename it with a territory more befitting my country. Names of cities and territories change quite often over time. Think about it: Is it Instanbul or Constantinople? Or is it Byzantium? Or maybe I would like to rename a certain city St.Petersburg or even Petrograd, if I have something against the German spelling. I mean, if we have the power to rewrite the history of our favorite little nations, shouldn't we be able to rewrite the names or a couple cities?
I also understand that there may be technical difficulties involved in allowing that. If so, then fine, it is still a great game, and maybe it can be worked into a patch or a sequel. That's all. Keep up the good work guys!

I had to reply to Rabbit before Christopher Robin and Piglet got in first!

On a less frivolous note I agree with the comments about changing city / province names. It won't stop me enjoying EU2 but I'd like it on a list of good ideas for future patches please.

IMHO there are a lot more enhancements that would be more welcome than naming armies, provinces, etc. The way the back end of the game is structured, it's not quite that simple and I'd rather they work on enhancing the engine and adding events, complexity, etc, than something that's quite this picky.

Are you seriously saying that the beta-testers didn't bring this up, or that they did and were told no? Just curious...

I don't recall it being brought up and posts have a hard time getting past me :D

Other "cosmetic" stuff got asked for too but seeing there was time pressure ...

For example in game save game deleting. Would be a nice feature addition but it isn't essential. Time is spent much better hunting crash bugs or improving the ai than that.
