I'm curious, because while the names of individuals and ships crop up all the time, the game doesn't randomly generate names for planets you colonize nor fleets you make, naming them after the planet's original designation, or just "Strike Fleet 1, 2, 3" etc. Why doesn't it use the names provided from the list for that? Or at least have an option somewhere for randomizing a name so it picks from those lists?

For planets, there is a button to randomly generate a name. It used to be the default but people complained that they could never remember which planet was in which system, hence the new default being to name planets after the system they're in.

As far as I know, the fleet names have never actually been used by the game, though.

I tend to prefer having "System name <orbit>", so I keep having to find and rename planets from either "System Prime/Secundus/etc." or whatever the previous owner called the planet.

But yeah, I don't think I've seen fleet names used.
