Name Game

Hello Boys!

I love the idea of being able to name all of our units and leaders in 4. I’m pretty sure we had it in 3 as well? ANYWAY, I was thinking about changing my leaders, divisions, armies, generals etc. etc. etc.

THEN

The more I started to think about it the more I surmised that I was really much more interested in the nick-names of these people. So I wanted to throw this out to the group and see if I could begin a collection of warriors/leaders/battle experts/tacticians/generals ETC. real life names & more importantly their nick-names. If you could also include what country and time period that would be great as well.

I would also like to put this on a spreadsheet or list it somehow so if others wanted to use this information in their games as well it would be readily available.

Nigel Mansell, "il leone" (the lion, in Italian). Active years: early 80's to mid 90's.

Edit: oh wait, you meant, generals. Well, at times he was in charge of more than 1000 horses at the same time. Does that count?

Annibale Bergonzoli, Italian general in WWI, Spanish civil war, and WWII.
General in Lybia in WWII. He was called "Electric Whiskers" by the British and he adopted the nickname in Italian as "barba elettrica" (electric beard).

There was one french general whose nickname was "the anvil" (in french of course).
He found out, and was pleased because it signified strength.

He had actually earned because he kept getting hammered.

Erwin Rommel aka The Desert Fox. German general/ field Marshall in WW2
George S. "Blood and Guts" Patton - American general, WW2
Bernard Montgomery was known as Monty - British FM, WW2 (not sure if that counts as a nickname)
Brits had an air force leader who was know as "Bomber" Harris (WW2)

Monty was also known as "the little shit" by one of the American generals, I don't remember who though. Not something you would put in the game
