This is just the sort of nationalistic drivel that unvariably came out of poets during the latter part of the 19th century. The artistic value, IMHO, is nil.

My modification (Han körde skit och välte/ och bröt sin högra arm.) means roughly: He drove manure and fell over/ and broke his right arm.

In Swedish it rhymes.
