Hi!

Played Victoria a bit earlier, but never really got into it, and continued over to HOI instead, but I thought I give it a go now, so, a couple a questions:

- I've got V:R and would like to use VIP and wonder what's the communitys opinion on it? Is it good? Does it increase realism, ai, etc? Or is it stilla alpha (thougth of it since it's version 0.2...) Or are there other mods focusing on later timelines, WWI i.e? (I've heard that the 1914 scenario isn't that good...)

-In HOI, you can increase performance by removing sprites, is there similar options in V:R?

-How good / bad is the converter and can you convert games to HOI even if you use VIC:REV + mod?

Well... All for now. Thanks in advance! :)

Much like CORE or AGCEEP, VIP is never "completed" - it is a work in progress.

Currently we are on version 0.2 of VIP for Revolutions. It's got a lot of events and creates a generally historical environment for play up to ~1890 or so. However, we have not really worked on event chains for the major geopolitical events post-1890, there is no WWI scripted and there are no interwar events for the leadup to WWII. That will be done sometime in the future.

In general, if you like a gaming environment that attempts to maintain a relatively historical structure, though with some opportunity for ahistorical events to happen (either by players making ahistorical choices or the AI doing so) then you'll possibly like VIP. If you are a fan of CORE for HoI or Magna Mundi for EU3, we are in that kind of vein.

If you prefer a more free-form, less historically structured environment to play your nation in, then VIP is not likely for you. We are planning on creating more ahistorical lines of development in future editions, but we have so much actual history to work through first that it is going to be several editions before we reach that point. Since all work on VIP is done on a voluntary basis, it requires the developers of the mod having the time free to work on it. What you have now is the product of more than four years work by contributors, but we're still far from complete.

But we must be doing something right, as the latest version has been downloaded more than 1500 times since its release on 22 May 2008, and that is not including downloads from mirror sites.

Great reply. And yes indeed, CORE's one of the favoruites. Thanks! Hopefully, I can contribute in a later stage. :)

There is no such thing as a performance loss. There never was - at least I dont remember ;) . Even with couple thousands units on the map and sprites ON game running smoothly at every stage from 1831-1935.

Mate, no more horrors of HOI2 when later in the game, one day at max speed took like 5 mins to run. I know what I saying, I also returned to Vicky realm after 2 years 'in' HOI2. :)

One tip tho: Do not run game at max speed. There is a major bug with event system. At max speed a lot of events lie dormant and never fire, or fire all at once when you load game after quiting or fire in the inproper order - e.g. you get end result from event before you even pick an answer . I noticed even with Above Normal Speed there is still problem, but ANS works for me, anything slower is just too slow for my taste.
