Yeah, I think that thread got locked because people got emotional. So many people have bought into the legend of the Panther and the Tiger, the reality tends to hit them with quite a thump

I think it also is tied in with the fact that the second world war reduces down to statistics and macro factors. Showing that those magnificent, knightly warmachines were terrible at their job in comparison to mass produced and mass fielded systems really drains the romance out of the thing.

If you loved reading about ww2 and BIRGing on your favorite side/system/unit then the implication that anecdotally dramatic tactical ability was insignificant kind of threatens the drama of battle and that is a little unsettling.

All that is before we get to the issue of academic types who have spent years studying and believing one thing.
