If it gets worse once Lycan culture is founded, that does sound like it's a result of characters being offered to turn instead of being born with pup and becoming werewolves. Perhaps I'll make characters a bit more selective when offering to turn, favoring their loyal commanders.
The low downside doesn't really play into it - the AI doesn't use that to make decisions. If you had an event where one option gave you 5000 gold and the other option killed you, baring manually putting in weights, the AI would pick each option 50% of the time.

Just going to second what was stated about the incredible spread of Lycans. I had at least one vampire game of several centuries where every major kingdom or empire was led by werewolves, typically of lycan culture, except for mine.

It felt -very- appropriate to have a Vamps vs Werewolves-setup, but still, the numbers were pretty worrying :D

In the development copy, I have drastically reduced the chance that the AI will offer to turn someone into a werewolf. When they do, they will prefer family members and their commanders. I will keep an eye on this during testing.

Is there a difference between vampire and werewolf turning? The vampires never spread really far (or are just way better with staying hidden).

I found a bug with merchant republics, none of the family palace upgrades apply at all, I tested with just Mythos 2 active to make sure it wasn't from interference with other mods. I've tested with ruler designer vampire tribal reforming into merchant republic, then venice in the 769 start and neither received any bonuses from any of the family palace upgrades.

-edited-
Levy size, tradeposts, and increases to the palace itself(troops/tax) don't seem to function.

-edit2-
Replacing "common\buildings\00_buildings.txt" in the "mythos2.zip" with the attached file seems to fix those issues but I'm not sure why.

By the way I know how the AI makes decisions. The idea was more that with bigger penalties it is more unlikely that monsters are successful or even get elected and thus start the snowball.
Maybe even have a law like significants of woman for monsters with 0 meaning automatic reason for revoke and imprison and max being equal (monsters would have a tolerance of human law).

Although it would be strange if you could only either persecute or tolerate all monsters but having a individual law for each monster type + humans will fill up the law screen. Maybe as a separate section with its own interval for changing it?

And if I remember right, at least for dragons you wanted to do something like this through religion, or?

Setting up laws like that... might be possible. I would need to look into it - it might be possible to give opinion penalties of a trait, and to change whether a trait is considered a monster. This would have a side effect of lowering those monsters' opinion of each other, though. I'm not sure if I can work around that or not.

Thanks! I'm in the middle of adding a new feature to convert Great Temples (and playing Skyrim, but that's unrelated) and don't want to get my code mixed up, but I'll look at that code to determine the cause and integrate it once I have this feature finished.

Vampires can only see Known Vampires, because Secret Vampires have 2 conflicting tags:
Code:
    hidden_from_others = yes
    is_visible = {
        OR = {
            character = FROM
            trait = vampire
            trait = necromancer
        }
    }
removing "hidden_from_others = yes" makes Secret Vampires visible to Vampires and Necromancers properly.
----------------------

I'm currently enjoying a playthrough as Upir from 769. Having no stewardship at all I had a demense limit of 3 until I subjugated Greater Poland for their duchy title and 1 more demense. This was followed by taking the King of Pomerania ambition, subjugating everyone in the kingdom individually, and forming the kingdom(giving 1 more demense!). My first childe became ineligible for land grants after the very first one I gave him, so I decided trying to keep things consolidated that way was futile. 80% of my vassals are under -50 opinion which enabled me to imprison 2 of them for treasonous plots and make them my children. It is 782 and only now do I consider that maybe I should have just made them vampires so I could try to execute them when they out themselves.

King Karl of W/E/M Francias, Burgandy, Saxony is looking scary while putting down rebellions near my borders. Thankfully he lost his war for Lombardy so HRE isn't on the horizon. 2 counts also managed to gain independence from him in his heartlands... somehow.

My Monster Revolts started disappearing the day after being declared with no war indicator at the bottom of the screen. The dialogue came up I'd see someone holding the revolt title, pass 1 day, on the revolt's title screen it'd show an empty portrait, and the revolt title's flag would change from a red "revolt" flag to the flag of the title the revolt declared on.
It has been weird.
-edit: My most recent one spawned, the troops disappeared, and the Monster Hunter leading it moved to another court.
----------------------

It has been 31yrs for our "Hero" Upir as he works on expanding his dynasty and nearly collapsing his kingdom repeatedly. In the years of relative peace following 782 King Karl of W/E/M Francias, Burgandy, Saxony was excommunicated and later died suspiciously in 784 causing W-Francia to split from the realm as Francia. The following 7 years I had nonstop wars to Tributary every Slavic state surrounding Pomerania. In 794 Upir is outed as a Vampire, immediately adopts Vampiric culture, and queue vampire troop buildings in every holding. I had a bunch of inconsequential wars until 805.

In November of 805 King Ortbert of the Francia/Burgandy/Saxony/Germany collective dies mysteriously fracturing the realm into 3. I gain also finally get a claim to Rome, convert to Luciferian, and declare multiple wars to divide future armies. A holy war against E-Francia, against M-Francia for Koln, and against the Papacy for Rome. I focus on W-Francia first to prevent the people aiding the Pope from saving them and also send a detachment for M-Francia's Koln. I get my Tributaries to join the war for Rome but keep my vassals in reserve (which turned out to be very wise).

The war against E-Francia went well but most of those troops had to be detached to deal with the 10k stack Rome dropped on my capital. That 10k stack took the capital in a week. This repeated in nearby counties 5-6 times before the detachment arrived and beat it due to superior composition/commanders. 2k+ tribal Trapper retinues (33% are Archers with attack bonus) with archer heavy personal levies and assorted allied troops dropped their morale in half during the Skirmish phase:cool:. I spend 1.5 years mopping up the remains of that 10k stack. At around 50% warscore M-Francia succession crisis'd out of our war o_O:mad:.

I get a strange message in 807 telling me we seiged Rome:eek:. I see an allied 4.5k that decided to go for the war goal while I was preoccupied. Trusting in them to get the 20% warscore left to win I focus back on E-Francia. In the time it takes me to finish the Holy War the Papacy crushes the siege of Rome with 6k and I am running out of troops. I call in my vassals and begin to trek toward Rome... only to turn around halfway to stop the troops the Papacy dropped on my capital again. I leave my retinue and 2k of allies behind the next time.

In 810 I finally usurp Rome. I become Patriarch, see I'm over demense severely, save my game, and quit. The next day I continue where I left off... except I'm now Blood Court government instead of tribal dropping my personal levies from 6k to 500 while I'm scheduled for a viking invasion with 10k(5k are event) troops this year! I redistribute all my tribal lands so their levies stop being under 30(from the 1.5k+++ they were when I was tribal) and Rome's temples. I end up with 2 demense out of 5 total, 0 personal levy, and my Retinue limit cut from 4.5k to 600 from my Military Organization going from 2 to 1.

The month for the Invasion passes and I wait expectantly for my doom. An Independence Faction Revolt fires! I call my tributaries and confirm I can't call tribal vassals. I manage to reach equal numbers and 400 of them are my leftover Vampire retinues:). A year in a Monster Revolt fires!... and disappears before the war? The "Recently Conquered" modifier on Rome goes away so I have actual levies again! I don't takes use them in the war and win next year (812).

In 813 I ally with the 6yr old King of Germany (bordering Italy-that-is-still-ruled-by-Lombards-but-totally-isn't-Lombardy) who is somehow Luciferian and Vampiric culture despite his deceased family and current guardian being non-vampire Catholicso_O. My goal: join his 4 defensive wars to solidify his reign. I go to Offer to Join and... am given 1 option:confused:. My full levy newly "Inspire Warrior"'d from my holdings march to Navarra... to defeat a 1 county count. A year in a Monster Revolt fires... and disappears before the war.

After it concludes in early 815 and much of my levy has been attrition-ed he calls on our Alliance for his 4(?!?:mad:) wars.
I begin to regret ever trying for that boy.

In other news Luciferian is at 72MA vs Catholic 58MA and I should have 85 years before Crusades can unlock so I'm relatively safe.

I'm on a bit of a break - the work was becoming a bit tedious and I don't want working on the mod to feel too much like a chore, or I may be tempted to quit.
When I do return to it, I'm in the process of creating a decision to allow Great Temples to be converted.

Hey, I know that feeling all too well. Just didn't wanna let the conversation and the forum thread by itself die =)
Sounds like a great feature, at any rate. Looking forward to whenever you get the modding juice again, and enjoying what you handed out in the meantime.

Setting up laws like that... might be possible. I would need to look into it - it might be possible to give opinion penalties of a trait, and to change whether a trait is considered a monster. This would have a side effect of lowering those monsters' opinion of each other, though. I'm not sure if I can work around that or not.

do it. do it now :D
