So, testing out the new beta, decided to check out the Ottomans and was doing ok recollecting cores and smacking around Genoa+Austria+Burgundy+[...]+Venice over a stupid new Genoa island. (slightly amusingly, Crimea didn't have this issue when they attacked Genoa over the trade ports, but I digress).

Anyways, the war is over, I feed Athens some Greek islands (very nice change in that I can feed them lands even if they don't want them, during the war).

So I look up and there's the Burgundian Inheritance. Enh, pre-wiped the army, so figured it was coming.

Then the succession war between Austria and Hungary started. Weird, maybe Austria is enforcing it or something (expecting the Austrian mission due to both Austria+Hungary being Habsburgs).

Nope.

I checked the logs and wow did the stars ever align for Hungary.

4th September. France peaces out Burgundia, claims french lands
7th September. Austria claims HRE lands
9th September. France falls under PU to Hungary

France had already taken all of the English lands and finished the HYW. They had also eaten Provence.

Now Hungary, who is in my coalition, gets to have the BBB as an attack dog. Unless Austria manages to stop it, or takes it for themselves.

Hungary is at -54 Prestige so I don't expect the PU to last, but the leader (Habsburg) is 21. I don't know if the initial PU choice type event for Hungary has completed yet, given that Hungary is Hasburg and not in a PU under Austria already.

If Hungary gets the Prestige and wins the war, I'm going to have a rough Transylvania kick. If Austria wins and gets the PU (though I don't think the AI ever claims it) that could be worse.

Will have to see. France is at 500 manpower with 39k troops. This is their weakest moment, so who knows. Castile is allied to austria, so this could be a mess. Muscovy is allied to Hungary, but unlikely to get to the war.

Why? It's unlikely they'll get military access, and I can't imagine they'll have the kind of navy the derps can put up for inland seas (I fight Venice + France combined sometimes as BYZ). Just have your stack of ships in western Greece, wait for France to attempt to land troops and blow them out of the water. Without WL change France is barely relevant here. Just avoid declaring on Hungary while France is fighting vs the HRE.

well, atm, there's a rather largish coalition all around me, so I'm not likely to stick the war soon.

Plus, if I do want to break the PU, it would be better for me to attack and 'help' Austria win provided they don't get the PU instead.

else, the AI always finds a way in. Burgundy managed to walk their 44 regiments down through the HRE to me, rather than ship them. So it's unlikely that a PU'd France, who no longer has HRE hate (since Hungary never usually generates it, aside from Austria) will be able to walk down.

Yeah sure, the Ottoderps are strong enough to handle it atm, but we'll see.

I will be most amused if Hungary manages to incorporate France in the end.
