So this just happened in my Solomonid game.

My wife gave birth to a child with the "Inbred" trait - also the "Strong" trait, which is a really wonky combination all things considered.

2zAXIp3.jpg

But what's even more wonky, is the fact her family and mine aren't known for interbreeding. Indeed, I investigated and discovered the last time my family and hers intersected was over a century ago.

Lskccv7.jpg

So at this point I'm royally confused how my child could get the "Inbred" trait, which lead me to start looking into her side of the family for culprits. No one on her side is "distant" enough to merit seduction and there are only three males - one of whom is a homosexual. But I did notice there's a lot of breeding between her family and another, specifically the Gojjamids of Damot.

And surprise of surprises, the current Count of Damot is seduction focused.

Yt2aCSz.jpg

There's no Lover's Pox to confirm, and I'm playing an Ironman game so I'm not sure if opening the dev console (Even assuming I could - which I don't know how) would break my cheev run, but what do you guys think? Has my character been cuckolded? Will opening the dev console break my game, and if not, what would I input to know for certain?

This is one of those things where there's a part of me that really wants to know, but if it messes up my game I'll just settle with suspecting infidelity.

Yes, you've been cuckolded. Your options are limited in ironman (you can't open the console in this mode), spying on your wife using intrigue focus is probably the only way you'll get "justice" and the truth.

There's another scenario where this might happen and that's your wife being a secret bastard and having a real father who's closely related to you. Again, intrigue focus might reveal this.

Possible.

It's been six in game years - two uncovered treason plots, half a dozen vicious rumor opportunities, two opportunities to murder my spouse - and still no evidence of infidelity. Her randy old goat of a Bishop tried to seduce her though.

Switch to intrigue focus and investigate your wife.

I don't want to derail the thread, but I wanted to ask: how do you do that? I mean the investigating? Does it happen automatically when you switch your focus? I've played this game for years, but I've never come across anything like that, I can't believe I've missed this option!

In my latest game, my son is getting cheated out of his Navarra inheritance by his older half-brother, sired by my wife (the queen of Navarra) and her cousin. Technically, the evidence is there where I check the - little - bastard's family tree, but I got no pop-up, so I'd be interested in looking more into it.

Select Intrigue focus, then right-click a character in your realm and hit "Spy On". You may get a pop-up that you've discovered a character has a lover.

The most direct solution I can think of is, plot to murder the bastard (since he's not your child you can do it), then murder wifey for good measure.

Thanks for the tip. I very seldom choose that focus and never used that option. All this time... :)

As for murdering the little git, he died in pile of manure. Sure, they're all just popups, but some deaths are more satisfying than others. :D

Characters in the game are given a string of "dna" that's about 20 characters long. Relatives have very similar strings, letting the game know that their children are suitable for being inbred. If two random characters have similar dna, they could very well up with the inbred trait.

Well, the little Inbred gal made it to 9. Had another event about possible infidelity, but not even 25 gold could ferret out the truth.

Thankfully these are happening with daughters. I'm not overly concerned about illegitimate sons, since I've got Free Investiture, I'm just shuffling the excess off into Bishoprics. Course, how this will affect my firstborn - and if he's really mine - then becomes the question.

I've had this happen. Was married to the sister of the Kaiser and had an inbred child. We were not related in any way and the only male relative she had was the Kaiser, and he did not have the seduction focus. I even used the console to confirm that I was indeed the father.

Just a case of the character dna and the RNG lining up in just the right way.

The Count of Damot isn't Strong, is your character? That might pinpoint which of the scenarios people have suggested is more likely.

As intrigue focus hasn't brought anything up, It seems more likely to me that your wife might be unknowingly related to you. The random chance for inbred must be impossibly small - almost 1000 hours of gameplay and I've never seen it happen randomly.

Wife's strong. Six kids, and the only one to carry over the trait is the Inbred.

As intrigue focus hasn't brought anything up, It seems more likely to me that your wife might be unknowingly related to you.

I hadn't investigated that route. There is potentially that, when I get back into the game I'll check out my wife's mom for potential Lover's Pox.

I read 'cave' instead of 'case,' gotta say mysterious cave of incest sounded more exciting.

You mean Lot and his Daughters?

The Count of Damot isn't Strong, is your character? That might pinpoint which of the scenarios people have suggested is more likely.

As intrigue focus hasn't brought anything up, It seems more likely to me that your wife might be unknowingly related to you. The random chance for inbred must be impossibly small - almost 1000 hours of gameplay and I've never seen it happen randomly.

No, it's definitely possible and has happened before:

The issue is that DNA strings are relatively short and it's possible for wife/husband to have a similar one by pure chance:
