Ooh, this should be fun...

First, the naval discussion. I posted some thoughts about sea-zone occupation on the second page of this thread a while back. Take a gander...

Second, I'd like to see an AI that understands the balance of power better--specifically in terms of forming it's own alliances to counterbalance your own alliance or individual power.

Since I'm not too picky, I'll just (hesitantly, as I know I'll cause a lot of discussion), suggest one more thing. Perhaps the use of POPs should be reconsidered. I've nevr played any other Paradox games, but I understand they don't have POPs. This might be good, as it would expand the playability of the game to many more people. If this expansion were balanced by a more intelligent AI, then I think it would be amenable to most people.

Just my thoughts, and IMHO,
Memnon

In Vic2:

-the game must be more real, e.g. in vic russia becomes a great power with big money income where in true there was big poverty of the people.
-the ai should be improved, e.g. in vic1 austria may have extremely bad relations with germany but it won't place troops in german-austrian border.

concerning the time it takes to make a game we will have to wait a lot before these demands be fulfilled :(

Pirates vs. Robots on the Moon!

Also, an editor.

More extensive tech system so you can make a scenerio that begins long before the Victorian era- although that isn't going to happen...

If this is for Vic2, then I'd like to see two types of sea zones: sea and ocean. Sea zones would correspond to the present coastal zones and the "shallower" seas such as the Baltic, Med, and so forth.

Monitors would be restricted from entering the ocean zones - this reflects the low freeboard, low sea-keeping ability of this class that historically restricted their use to being coastal defense ships.

Submarines would be restricted from entering oceans as well - at least until much later in the game. Maybe a second sub type, or a tech, would allow their use in ocean zones then.

That is what happens in Vic1!

In my gameplay experience I've seen Germany with bad relations with Austria and Germany declaring war on Austria and the austrians don't put troops guarding the border.

A wider timeframe. From the beginning of the XIX century to 1928 - if it is not possible to simulate the 1929's economic crisis - or to 1933.

I know it's improbable, but ministers would be nice. Each party should have a set of candidates for each position.
Some Minister of Treasury could be a tightwad who won't let you take too much debt or run heavy deficits, but also would encourage investment, or a rather loose spender, even if that encourages bad investments and fiscal irresponsibility.
The Minister of Defense could be anything between a jingoistic maniac to a pacifistic bookworm with a penchant for new guns - or a naval expert.
The Interior minister could be a gestapo-style person, or a man of the people, or perhaps a corrupt dealmaker - or housecleaner, sure to be hated by anyone with dirty hands.
As for the Minister of Culture & Education, well, haute culture does bring in prestige, but nothing beats a good public(private, whatever the english call it) education. A moralising preacher or a liberal futurist? Even a socialist!?
The Foreign Ministry would be a choice between diplomatic points versus general amiability. You could have a steamroller, or you could have a guy everybody likes. Of course, they might have personal agendas. If the foreign minister hates russia, well, it's just not going to help the relations - but if he's a francophile, well, there's an ally for you. Party relations, too. Communists don't deal well with laissez-faire capitalists.

More researchable items, please. 40 should do. The game period should be extended a bit, from 1820 to 1930, with separate tanks and a special air force command. A real economic cycle, with Ministry of Treasury predicting this or that - right or wrong, who knows - accuracy should, of course, grow with research of economics.

More resources and stuff to make. Generally chemicals(sulfur+coal?), general consumer goods(lumber, steel, coal, whatever), trains themselves have to be built(if there aren't enough trains, the tracks provide less bonus), tractors, radios, etc. Energy use must be planned, with rivers to harness and powerplants to build. Strategic stockpiles should be limited by technology level(how long does this explosive stay good?), and they should be placed somewhere, in states preferrably, divided by general infrastructure and population. If the enemy captures a whole state, well, kiss goodbye to some of your stockpiles. There goes my glass, there goes my booze and ammo.

So many ideas...

Start with the POP System, conversition and etc. It should be linear, and player defined. So to convert 1 single officer the cost would be 1/10 of converting 10 officers, and the produtivity of 10 crafstmen should be 10x bigger than 1. The decreasing marginal productivity could be applied, but I think that a lot of people wouldn't understand and flame the hell out of the Devs.

Now the whole concept of diplomacy/economy could have a revamp. As example, IF you have a satellite, you should be able to 'get' theirs resources (by priority in trade, if a direct trade system is implemented, or by some direct transfer), also, this satellite would have to revert part of their income, send troops as E.F. and all their conquests would be reverted to their masters.

The economy, as mentioned above, a diplomatic system where direct treades could be implemented, so It would make sense to guarantee the Korea independence in exchange of 10 coal/day, or 10 rubber from brazil in exchange of a manufactured product.

Also, the wepons produced, could have levels attached, so I could buy crappy Sweddish Rifles (no prejudice here), or state-of-the-art American Peacemakers. This would be applied to ships and artillery too.

A system where the colonization of certain areas (african interior, or dense jungles of south america) would be tied to a specific medicine tech.

Which brings me to a revamp of the factories, as example: "Who in hell would buy a plane in 1910? Answer: A 1k belgium Vicky capitalist POP!" Some factories, could be scraped in favor of something else (I do have some suggestions, but those are in consideration of VIP, so they are secret...)

Also the tech system, doesn't make sense to have Transvaal with all tech researched by 1870... And no way that Brazil can reach 100% in literacy by the same time. And no RR in some provinces, as example dense jungles of south america.

Another thing, as a capitalist country, you could build RR in foreign country in exchane of something as England did in the timeframe.

Well, this post is already too long, and still I didn't even started with the AI, so I will let it to a further post. :)

But don't take me wrong... I love Vicky. ;)

Starting date can slightly be taken back for about 20 years. So CK, EUII and Victoria altogether combines history or timeframes to each other. Also longer the time more the fun for me.

Diplomacy depth can be much more deeper. It is the key to great excitement and enjoy IMO. Everybody loves more action in diplomacy and wants to express the power of their countries somehow. (if the selected country is powerful or makes it one)

More kind of factories can also be fun. Opium is useless apart from the Opium War right now. I leave the rest to ParadoxPlaza. :)

I like the pop system also, a must keep.

Vicky is one of Paradox's best games, I think there is room for improvement but my major wish would be the map.

The map should be more real and center on the development of cities. Building railroads during this era is not realistic. You should be able to see the cities and build tangible railroads which can actually transport a certain number of troops for mobilization.

I like the provence and state system, but movement should be on a different scale and railroad and cities could be observed in that map ledger. Perhaps in combat one would have to occupy so many cities in order to conquer the provence. Plus industries could be located in cities rather than broadly across the entire state.

I once played this war game, which was on a grid system, and it allowed the transport of troops along the rail system. This meant that troops could be moved to the front quickly but only where railroads connected.

Just a thought!
