Make them less dependent on internal market.
Carrier AI:
One of the problems with carriers in stellaris are that carriers don't act as carriers. Carriers should engange combat and move and stay as far from the enemy as possible. That would make carriers feel more like carriers and help them a lot. For that matter, the other computers could also be improved as well.
Ship-power
If I choose to build NO shields, I will have tons of power left which I have nothing to use for. Yes I know power may increase weapon damage and whatnot. But it still feels like a waste. Give me alternative components which requiers lots of power instead. A weapon, which you cannot use if you have shields. And opposite...
More combat effects:
There are to few special effects in combat. Why not some minor area of effect, why not an engulfig weapon which once hit, it continues to do damage.
Weapon balance:
Now it seems like weapons which ignores shields and armor are superior to all other weapons. Wether that is true or not, please look into combat balance again. And maybe, look at what weapons would be effective versus what.
XP:
Reduce the XP needed to promote both for admirals and ships. Some of my admirals have seen combat after combat after combat. Still only level 3. I have some veteran ships, finally, but they should have been elite already.
