My ruler is in no location

I am playing as a muslim for once and I am trying to take all of Hispania

My character is the best commander I have and I want him to lead my army in a holy war. One problem (or two), I cannot select him to lead the army.

Trying to figure out why, his location bar is blank. He is not "reigning" anywhere or anything.

How do I fix this? Is this common?

I've noticed this problem with the Pope. It'll go away when a new ruler ascends, but I'm not sure what causes it. (I didn't really mind, because I could use the pope as a commander (!) and his martial was pretty good)

that is not good news for me! I bred this character to lead armies! And he is still in his early twenties

now im stuck using generals with 11 martial

Yeah, I suspect it might be related to commanding an army for your liege, then going independent while commanding that army - since the Pope in question in my game was a Bishop (leading an army)-turned Antipope (still leading an army)- turned real Pope (and going independent of me). No clue how to fix it though. Could try save editing a file to put him in command of an army, then disbanding that army.

I've noticed the problem a few times with vassals, but I usually solved it with they their violent murderation. I'm guessing that would be less than ideal in your case?

Maybe bug report this instead.

Yep upload the save and make a bug report in the bug report forum. This sounds quite severe bug that should be fixed.

You can still fix this by some minor savegame editing. You have to find your own character in the save game and find the "host=" under it and change the number it has to your own character number.
