My Preorder dilemma: and, can I get *all* the Call to Arms perks if I buy EUIV later?

So, I am not sure whether it's a good idea for me to buy EUIV now.

- I am not in the US right now and I won't come back before the release, so any electronic purchase with my credit card would be at an unfavorable price/exchange rate;
- I have a lot of stuff to do for my professional life in the next few months, I am already addicted to CK2 and I frankly don't need another awesome addictive game right now;
- I am not that interested to an extra copy of CK2 (I have one, and no friends to gift it to) nor to the savegame CK2 -> EUIV converter;
- I always bought the CK2 DLCs on release recently, but usually the first time I had the chance to play them they had already gone under a 50% - 75% discount.

On the other hand, I want to put my hands on this game and want to support Paradox; also all the combined content and bonuses looks really sweet (Deluxe edition, Preorder DLCs, Call to Arms DLCs).

What do you guys think? A decisive factor towards my decision will be to what extent I can access to the Call to Arms DLCs at a later stage. I understand that the Call to Arms and the Preorder perks are two separate things, but I am a little bit worried about the special icon: I remember that in the case of CK2, the special icon was gained only if the game was bought around release (as I did).

Also, can you confirm that all the DLCs that are part of either the Deluxe edition, the preorder campaign and the Call to Arms initiative will be available for purchase at a later stage?

It has not been confirmed but it would not make business sense to not make the DLCs available for purchase at some point to those that missed them.

The forum icon will not be able to be gained unless you pre-order and register your game code here on the forums within the first couple of weeks or so from release but is the icon really that important?!

I am a little bit worried about the special icon: I remember that in the case of CK2, the special icon was gained only if the game was bought around release (as I did).

Consider yourself lucky, I pre-ordered CK2 but my special icon went away for some reason.

As to your question, it's been implied (but not stated outright) that the DLCs will be purchasable at a later date. I really don't see Paradox as the kind of company that would make them exclusive. They are good to their fans.

Paradox recently changed the forums and your icon may be in the Hidden Game Icons. Check under "My Games" to see if it is there and if so just select it and move it over with the arrow.

No pre-order icon but you will of course receive the generic EU4 icon whenever you purchase and register.

Well the Call to Arms thing is different from Pre-Order. They already mentioned that the CK2 converter will be available for separate purchase so I assume the others will be as well. Not sure about the Call to Arms but all you need is just 10 emails.

My view on the subject of promotions and exclusive DLCs is as follows:

I'm totally fine with:
- Giving away exclusive forum icons and titles.
- Including game enhancing DLCs, other games (like CKII) and other similar things for free as long as others will be able to purchase them later.

I raise an eyebrow at, but am not totally against:
- Giving exclusive cosmetic DLCs, such as unit sprites, music and other non game enhancing things that will not be offered to others to purchase later.

I am totally against:
- Giving away or including game enhancing DLCs, such as events, features, countries, etc. that others will not be able to purchase later.

I hope this distinction is clear. That is, it's OK to have exclusivity for things that do not change how you play the game. It is also OK to give people discounts or things included in a pre-order sale price that do change how you play the game as long as others will be able to purchase it at a later date (preferably at launch). It is unacceptable to offer game changing things that will then not be available to others at a later date for a price.

For me it would just come down to money. Do I have the $40 or $50 or whatever it would be to go ahead & preorder & support Paradox? If you do, then preorder today. If you dont, then go ahead & wait til you do.....

You basically redirect your internet traffic to a server located in some other country, so sites (like steam) will then look at your IP and assume that you are a citizen of that country. As such you could set up an American steam account as an European and buy cheap games. Problem is, whoever is in control of the proxy will also have access to your login info and credit card...

Actually, it has been confirmed. You can buy all the preorder bonuses post launch. It was announced in the stream yesterday.

The way I see it, you have three choices.

1. Buy it now the easy way. (Either live with the sub-optimal conversion rate, or get someone to gift it to you from the US, and send them the money)

2. Buy it now the hard way. (Pay for a proxy and cheat the Steamstore to think you are in America - incredibly bothersome for first timers)

3. Wait till you can buy it back home, but end up paying more for the free pre-order DLC, and lose the pre-order icon.

I'm pretty sure I'd go with choice number 1. I mean, how much can a bad conversion rate really add to the price? Its not gonna add 30% or anything crazy like that....
