As one who played Naples myself and writing an AAR (which reminds me, I'll have to continue it sometime), I would advise caution. Oh sure, at first it's fun trying to break free of the Spanish yoke and trying to unify Italy, but your army costs too much, inflation is rampant, and winning takes luck more than anything. Hmm, just like the Knights, but anyway... just be careful if you DO decide to pick them.

Of the other choices, Lorraine and Saxony are interesting. Holland's most likely gonna be done so many times because of the potential economic power. (I played an IGC myself, and found myself on the offensive in both the Old and New Worlds.) However, if you're interested, it's okay. You've done Knights already. (Loved the AARs) China is too boring until the Europeans start coming. With Ethiopia you can't do much (map's restricted). Askrakhan's interesting but you have to worry about the basically everyone, including the big Russian Bear. As for Oman and the Hasifd, they're a wee bit tough, but hey, if you claim the Holy Land with the Knights... :)

One thing I do suggest, keep up the hilarious commentary! :)

Until then,
Alex Gariepy

Hi Alex,

I am really enjoying your AAR too :) When I played Naples I decided not to break with Spain for a while to make a little more easy, anyway I can't too much away ;)

Hmmm looks like a dead heat between Lorraine and Holland, ooooh the tension :)

You know, what I'd *really* like to see is an AAR made using the random scenario generator: http://www.geocities.com/moctezumaiam
No one talks about it on this board & I'm wondering if that's because no one's using it! It's very versatile and can be set to generate anything from a traditional Grand Campaign with the New World slightly scrambled (you have to admit "exploration" starts to get dull as hell about the third time around) to a complete random universe where nations are scattered across the globe and spices and chinaware are found in The Grampians.
I've tried a few abortive games myself and with the right settings it can be true entertainment (those Mamelukes can sure kick Spain's ass...) The experience of expanding from a single province into an unknown world is like playing a detailed version of Civ with real diplomacy, and is *completely* different from the lame "Fantasia" alternative. I'd write an AAR myself, but, I'm a lazy bastard and have little time and less writing talent. The best AARs on this board are those like the Knights that have an interesting and unexpected outcome; I'm sure an Alternate History AAR would exceed all expectations on these points!
Anyway, here's hoping some poor sod will give it a try. From my (limited) experience I've found these settings to give a playable result; you can rerun the generator or muck about with its manual GUI editor if you don't like the world:

Fantasia Mode OFF
Colonial Dynamism - Equal, 3, variable
Quick Start - Equal, 3 provinces
Trade - continent specificity OFF
Major Power Advantage 50%
Force COTs to Major Powers
Edict of Tolerance ON

Thanks for all your input guys :)

It great to see so many people interested in my next piece of work :)

However I lookeed over my notes for the games and the Hasifid empire actually (IMO) turns out best, for interest, so I will get started on that soon :)
