so i bought this game a few months ago , started a random game with (i think it was that i deleted that save) Brazil , having no absolute idea of what i was doing went to war with argentina , got rekd , ragequit after a bunch of rebellions happening and france (i guess this is a trend on most paradox game huh) randomly declaring war for me , then i went to this forum , asked some tips on a threads and they said that USA was a good country to start , also checked some stuff on wikia , just when i started the game i went to war with mexico to save texas , after the war GODDAMN TEXAS DIDNT APLY STATEHOOD , after 2 whole years of waiting , i just went yolo and as a good freedom loving american , invaded their clay and took their children (no wait this part is only ck2) , after that industrialization , more war with mexico yada yada yada , but then those tea drinking monocle wearing britishes , just took oregon and washington , i went super angry and went to war , then i realized that the UK had tons of allies , "but thats ok they are on the other side of the pacific" i tought , but again i realized i had no navy , what i did? carped siege every state on canada (for some reason no army there , probably some india stuff) and got about 30% warscore before they reached me , went for a shitty wargoal , after years i decided ally with spain (only GP that actually liked me) and war with mexico again , but those stupid spaniards HAD to bring uk into war AGAIN , i just had to white peace as quickly as possible , near the mid-to-late part of that (what do you call it? run , campaign , game?) i even went to some africa colonization (because nothing is more american then freeing your slaves and slaving more people)

and that was my experience as a newcomer to this game (and paradox in general)

Not bad. My first run was a USA campaign in which teh Civil War happened when I was at war with the UK and Mexico.

I quit that run soon after.

When I bought the game I thought militancy = more soldiers and a stronger army for me. No wonder I got so many rebels.

That's a funny one :)

After an initial economic trial run as Argentina, I jumped into Prussia. For some reason, I couldn't get anywhere against a day-one coalition of France/Austria/Russia that seemed mutually bent on destroying me from the start of the game. The only allies I could get were all of those small city-states and petty principalities in my economic sphere. Everyone else was "Impossible", despite me having 0 infamy and France quickly acquiring about 12. Then they invaded me. Game over.

Now, after several other campaigns, I'm revisiting Prussia, formed NGF, and I'm STILL stuck with France/Austria/Russia in an unbreakable coalition right from the start of the game. I can take on any one of them, but not all three at once. Then Spain broke our brief alliance for no good reason, and allied with France, despite France's double-digit infamy. I'm really unhappy about the clear anti-player bias that the AI has in terms of alliances and relations....or does Infamy make you more likeable?

That is weird in that I thought the AI refused GP alliances if they or the other were already in one. I guess if they sent the request at the same time?

My typical strategy for Prussia is to start generating Acquire State CB for Alsace-Lorraine while microing NGF state influence (and getting Holstein in my Sphere), and requesting an alliance with the UK. I've never had the UK fail to accept and if I have the Reactionary Party in control, I get Jingoism for a faster CB claim. I reorganize my armies into something a bit more balanced, stacks of 10 units a piece, squeezing more artillery and an engineer unit if necessary.

As soon as my CB is ready, I usually face a France-Russia alliance (which I can deal with just fine). I've never seen Austria involved in there either.

(I used this and the gamey occupation strategy to form the ridiculous Greater Germany just because I wanted some OP state capitalism to play with industrialization economy hahaha).

I've been neck deep in this game for the past few months as I got hooked but I've never really noticed an anti-player bias with alliances though. The tooltip usually gives information on why they aren't keen with allying with you.

The problem is that great powers can intervene in wars if they're friendly with one of the countries. You should decrease Mexico's opinion of the UK to neutral and then go to war. Trust me, this happened to me as the US.

Exactly. They normally can't form GP alliances while already allied to a GP, but if the requests are placed at the same time, it's obviously possible. On Day One, it's almost normal for it to happen to at least one of the GPs, since they spam multiple random offers. I suppose I should have restarted as soon as I saw that.

While countries CAN intervene in wars against a friendly state (as long as that friend didn't place an offensive wargoal, and is losing), they rarely do. When it does happen, it's potentially devastating to suddenly find yourself with an almost completely undefended front under attack.

My first game ever was for Two Sicilies and since it was my first PD game I was simply terrified. Terrified. Laws, production, parties and production screen. Quit and uninstalled after ten minutes.
Second game happened when I've counted enough hours in CK2 and EU4, with that and Wiki's blessing everything suddenly became manageable. Started as Japan, since it was told to be easiest to westernize and with little none opposition from neighbors. Turned out great, instantly got to GP list after westernization. Several wars with China later my Imperial machine just became unstoppable. Second army in the world, 4th in production, 60+% literacy. Easily won a war against Britain over some petty colony in Indonesia - here I realized that AI is bad at naval invasions. And then I got my eyes on russian Kamchatka, since that core of mine in Kuriles just didn't let me sleep. Russia was in pretty bad shape and couldn't stand against me. It had France as ally though, but AI is bad at naval invasions, remember?
Well, turned out it was one big mistake. After a year I looked on war screen... and saw entire world looking back at me from enemies list. Welcome to WW1, weeb. Over goddamn Kamchatka. After that everything was just a train wreck. Naval invasion from France? Well, never happened. They just walked. From Paris to Seoul. GB failed at naval invasion as usual, but turned my fleet into a mess regardless. Even my devoted population started to get nervous after losing most of territory in China, but then USA decided to join me.
A glimpse of hope, I thought. Well, no. They joined as moral support. "Gambare there. We've already captured remaining british colony here. We suppose that's enough". That was my most crushing defeat in all PD games I've played.

Don't expect to stomp here, Vicky punishes weakness with bad allies >:)
