It's not a secret to anyone who is not new to Stellaris, but...
The AI is abysmal to say the least: Overpopulated, starving planets with high unemployment and buildings that never get upgraded. Habitats that are built but never colonized. Research without leading scientists. Ships with tier 2 techs in year 2400+. Pointless wars where nobody wins anything and they just chase each others fleets for few years until they get tired of it.
It's really disappointing when after a long game session you take a look at your achievements just to find out you never had a competition in the first place, half of the galaxy literally starving to death and a few 3k fleets patroling some worthless trade route. Hell, even awakened FE's are passive. They literally do nothing but build gateways in their home systems. Never declaring a war, never demanding subjigation, never building anything on their own home planets despite ENORMOUS resources bonuses. They get 1k energy income by DEFAULT, yet they're unable to do absolutely anything.
The only time AI poses a threat to you is early game while it's economy can still keep itself afloat. By the mid-game AI's economy becomes a mess, it can no longer support its fleets, will never declare a war on you unless you are significantly weaker, which, to be honest, is unlikely to happen unless you forget to pause your game and fall asleep.
Don't get me wrong, I love winning, I love being superior, I love dominating the galaxy, being on top in everything, yet it doesn't feel much of an achievement when your opponent is braindead. I have over 900 hours spent in this game, I've played since 1.0 and seen my share of AI stupidity but never before its been so pathetic and helpless. I would not call myself a Stellaris mastermind but I'm not clueless about the game either. Its just not challenging anymore; new economy while complicated at first glance is rather simple once you get the gist of it.
I genuinely hope they will fix AI soon so I can enjoy the game once more. What do you think of the current state of the AI, what can be done?
