edit - ok this is strange. I reloaded save and some of the craftsmen who did have rising militancy are actually losing it now. Polish onces and the ones in the screenshot are rising though but it doesnt add up. The total 0.05 is higher than the sum??????????????

Um, all the factors there add up to 0.05. There are 3 +0.01s and a + 0.02 = 0.05. What's the problem?

Well i thought that but at this stage in the game, when i hover my mouse to see the political effects of reforms none of them seem to make any difference. In my last game they did but in this one they seem to make no difference.

eg all trade union reforms give + - 0 when i hover mouse?

also plurality 5.8 percent ,

You have much lower Plurality since it is 20 years earlier in the game.
What is Plurality?

Hmm i thought this was split in to 2. One for militancy and once for conciousness. Increases at the top for one and bottom for other. I am reading manuals, guides etc btw but the politics are turning out to be harder than i thought.

doesnt the +1 next to conciousness represent the total ie +1 plurarity?

Whoops, you're right. That's what I get for posting quickly while alt-tabbing between the forums and the dragoon mod...

Anyway, the extra Mil is most likely coming from the pop being a differnt ideology from your current government and/or having different issues.

Yes but why does it say 0.05 then when they only add up to 3?

Well things have now gone from bad to worse. The liberal movement has started in germany and it feels much worse than last time. Ive tried a couple of reforms, Non socialist unions and lowered taxes but its no good. Militancy is rising and only way i can make it go down is to put tax so low that i loose money. maybe ill give free press or even voting rights but they are expensive.

As I said:

Perhaps I should have added that these are not shown in the Mil tool tip, but I thought it was already clear.

And you'd have avoided the liberial revolution just by granting censored press.

Thanks that was helpful. I went to previous save and introduced censored press.

Really what i need is peoples needs to be met. This -0.05 would solve much of my problem. Sometimes my people do get this but not always. Ill try and to go down this route but if it fails ill probably just have to give in to voting rights.

Well ive decided to cut the poors taxes. Now i have -0.01 militancy amoungst all craftsmen. This has hurt my economy bad but ill stick with it for a while until danish war has come and gone. Meanwhile ill work on exports to increase my peoples income, and hopeful allow them to afford the furniture and clothes they need. Once this need is met i can tax them more i hope. I cant afford any reforms right now so this is the best i can do.

Don't change your voting rights before '52 though, otherwise Bismarck's counter-revolution will strike and that's no fun.

Its very hard to work out when, and it what order, to do stuff :)

I hadnt introduced voting rights yet but now its 65 and i think i will. Ive sorted out the militancy the only effective way i found. Poor tax is now 10percent and middle is 25percent. I have asumed you always want militancy to be going down in the long term, and the few reforms id put in wernt enough.

My main problem for miltancy as i can see is peoples needs not being met. Ive played around with taxes but whatever i do, craftsmen just can meet their everyday needs. The corruption makes things much worse in patches so i have to enforce a blanket low tax policy to stop certain areas revolting.

Did you try the VickyWiki stuff that tells you how to meet pop needs? I thought I linked to it before.

It'll be a toughy though since getting income up can require increased production which requires money which requires taxing a bit. You might consider letting the mil sit at + a very small amount if that's what it takes to get the POP needs straightened out.

BTW, what factories do you have?

Well i have no idea how you pull that off. If i had taxes that way militancy would constantly rise in my pops. After i introduced minimal voting rights it became a lot easier but i still have to keep taxes low.

Do you just not care about militancy or do you use loads of reforms/meet peoples needs?

BTW things are looking good this game. Ive annexed loads of german majors and have north germany as vassal. My exports are up to 400 and my income is about 50 with low tax and full education. Militancy is falling everywhere i think but WE is a problem. WE seems a lot worse than EU. I fought a 2 year war with austria and im still trying to recover.

Well you have to consider cost effectiveness of fighting militancey and just how much you can put up with, while stil being able to run your nation effiiently.

I always keep an careful eye on it but someimtes you have to bite the bullet to achieve what you want. If that mean some revolts over a span of a few years then so be it.

I think your doing great tho. The more comftorable you become with how much you can get away with, as well as developing little tricks to keep it down, you will squeeze more and more out of your population. For me thats the funnest part of the game, learning all the little intracacies.

With Prussia Mil can be a bit of a problem before I can change to a con mon, but nothing too bad. I don't think I gave any extra reforms before that, but it's been a while since I've played Prussia.

Well it depends of your losses relitive to your army size as well as the length of the war, while IIRC in EUII it was just the length of the war that mattered.
Your game's looking good though, I hope your all set to beat up France in 2 years! :)

I never even change into a ConMon. Even when plurality does become a problem. :D
