honestly i have been loving it ! the new events and decisions, grooming my heir and introducing him to court
still working on how to properly use the favor system.
shattered retreat hasn't been much of a problem, looks like its been fixed.
coalitions i havn't had to experience yet and most likely never will as i like to roleplay my games and dont even do huge land grabs, unless i have a direct claim to it.

ck2_7.png

Fatimid empire has really been hit hard, constant rebellions and somehow a new sultan in Egypt was ELECTED!!
since when can muslims be elected?

during this chaos in the arab world, a crusade was called (perfect timing) and was successful as the Italian liberator of italy and his huge event spawn of 20,000 men destroyed the muslim armies.

ck2_8.png

then in the lands of the HRE its been constant rebellions, with Italy and Bohemia both becoming independent.
Ive noticed that rebellions are alot more common which is a very good thing, please paradox bring back the hardcore revolts we had pre ROI.

so far i have to say this game has been great, theres a few things i dont like, such ass the eagerness of the europeans to colonize north africa, but so far its only been italian republics so its fine.
as someone who has played CK2 since the beginning i must say this game is pretty damn nice right now.
my only complaint is that i hate how the byzantine empire is always so stable (why turks no kill rome)

currently im attacking hungary as its been in constant turmoil for the past 20 years, due to succession issues and revolts, and as a claimant via my mother i have decided ill bring peace to hungary..

FYI game is amazing if you roleplay and decide only to press claims on kingdoms when theirs a succession crises or you have a super ambitious character.

oh and one last thing, the game runs incredibly fast, i booted it up and was shocked how much faster things are running now,. so great job on that front guys.

This was my first observation about the game. On every screen, from main menu, custom game, to in-game, it runs much smoother/faster.

So you just sit there and stare at the game? War is the main feature of CK2, if you aren't warring there's honestly not a whole lot to do. Internal management is very minimal, planning marriages takes about 2 seconds. If you don't ever experience a coalition, I'm going to honestly say that you most likely aren't even playing the game, since they form at 5% threat. Getting 5% threat is pretty easy to get as well, you can just grab a few provinces.

As long as he is enjoying himself I don't see the problem. Maybe he sees value in the details you don't? My point is, who are you to tell him if he's having fun or not having fun? or that what he is doing is pointless?

That wasn't the point of my post. My point was if that's how he's having fun then maybe he shouldn't advocate for the dumb patch additions like coalitions and infamy if they don't affect his play style as he hasn't actually experienced them to comment. The people who, like myself, enjoy warring as the main feature of the game are hampered by an ahistoric feature that ruins the game when we try to play the latest patch with it's crappy additions.

I usually blob. Almost always accumulate plenty of threat since I'm always at war.

The reason I love ck2 is that it is a complete sandbox and you can play it however you want. If the OP enjoys the game the way he plays... good for him.

I usually blob as well because it used to be fun until coalitions were introduced. I used to love CK2 before the Conclave patch but now when I want to blob I have to endure long tedious ahistorical world wars which completely hamper the fun. As I mentioned above I was just pointing out that if he hasn't encountered the patch features coalitions and threat because of his playstyle then he should honestly not be making a comment on them.

I didn't see any advocating at all from OPs side. I don't mind defensive pacts because the game was far too easy and got boring very quickly before, once you had enough levies there was no one to oppose you. Atleast now there is a player check, admittedly ahistorical.. but yeah :)

The advocating I'm referring to is how he just blanketed everything under the loving the new patch and basically said that coalitions aren't a problem. I think it would have been more appropriate to state that he hasn't encountered any coalitions due to his play style and therefore can't make an accurate comment on them.

As for coalitions, they honestly suck at their job. I can still blob just fine and I can beat them as well so they aren't really a check. Instead they just make the game very boring. All the game becomes is "Oh gotta check my threat" or "Awe I'm fighting another coalition, sooooooo boring and lengthy". I've almost lost to a coalition only one time and it was because I didn't realize I was fighting a coalition so I didn't have my full levy raised. I only had 40k of my 120k raised since I thought I was just fighting the Byzantines. I quickly raised the rest of my levies and and after a long boring, uninspired, ahistorical, and not in the least bit fun war I won. Or the alternative is wait 40 years which on 5 speed is still several hours irl for the coalition to dissolve.

He never made a comment on defensive pacts, so I don't see what your goal is here to be honest. You don't accept OPs way of enjoying the game so you are trying to "convert" him to your negative viewpoint? If he enjoys the game, why would you step in and take that away from him just because he doesn't feel as strongly about something that you do? You have a personal vendetta with patch changes - roll back to previous versions and let people that enjoy the game ENJOY it as they want to.

I read through his post like 5 times... I don't think he really commented on coalitions tbh... He definitely didn't advocate for them. He never said they were great or that people who don't like them are wrong. Basically he enjoyed the dlc features and thinks he won't encounter coalitions because he RPs. I think you took his admission of play style as a bashing of blobbing.

I believe you are correct. I guess the title in combo with his play style admission made me feel like he was advocating coalitions. I think I just took it a little too far out of context. Thank you for such a level headed discussion, its not often that those happen on these forums.

I honestly feel that paradox should remember that they intitially created a game that catered to many different play styles. They should not railroad any one group into playing a certain way. Like I said earlier... Ck2 is a sandbox. It should be enjoyed however you enjoy it. Hampering one play style over another doesn't make the game better. It took a large diverse fan base to make this game so successful. I have complained many times about the patch... Yet I don't think the game is broken as some claim. It is certainly better than it was at release of conclave and I am thankful for that but it still can get better.

I agree. It completely kills me though how fond I used to be of this game, whereas now I can't even bring myself to play it because of the threat mechanic.

I agree. It completely kills me though how fond I used to be of this game, whereas now I can't even bring myself to play it because of the threat mechanic.

I think the thread mechanic (or the implementation of it, if defense pacts were truly regional would be fine) is garbage as well, but it is pretty easy to mod out.

well having played the game more, ive infact encountered the coalitions and threat mechanics, at first i was like wtf, but it didnt really bother or hinder me much.
and it seemed pretty justified, due to the fact that i just swallowed up the whole kingdom of hungary, as the king of sicily, and duke of tunis.
the only people in a pact against me so far are people that are directly in my conquest range, Croatia (who i have been chipping away at since the conquest of hungary) and poland ever since i made bohemia pay me tribute.

i intend on swallowing up Croatia and then directing my full attention to the ERE, who control most of the balkans along with most ERE de jure territory, and are now starting to expand into the middle east, as the muslim caliphs and sultans have fragmented and been at war with eachother, but managed to conquer jerusalem back

i dont play ck2 in order to blob, if i wanna go to war constantly ill play Total War.
when i play ck2 i try to limit myself. i try to put my relatives on thrones, more often it will be bastard sons, as i hate how the AI Breeds so damn much, i hate having a massive dynasty
Cadet houses are truly needed in this game.

basically i play to conquer just enough land, but not so much that i get bored, if i do end up taking to much land ill pray that i get a crap king so i can make it all fall apart.

anyways heres another screeny from this game..i hate the ERE they never fall apart, you can also see my threat level is at 0.
