Intenegrum happend last week in my castille game for me, but wasn't that bad.

Regency isn´t that bad. If you have claims and occupy them in wars the AI usually gives those to you.

I fabricated a claim on Barrois and just before it was finished and I got to DOW the dude kicks the bucket...

So wait a couple of years. As long as you had no heir it'll be shorter than a regency.

Nope. And they don't even get the penalty the player gets

Well no heir so it turned into a regency and then I couldn't DOW anymore.

I restarted the game it's a bit sad if it happens 380 days into your first game.

Why not just play, it don't kill your game, not being able to dow for a few years.
