My Empress her husband inherits a Bishop's title, causing a divorce?

Hello, I'm quite new to this game and I need some help. I'm not sure where to post this but I think this might be the right place.

My Empress of Hispania is happily married to her husband.

But apparently he is heir to a Bishop of some city, despite being completely unrelated to the former Bishop who died. I know I didn't do anything so this would happen.

So when the old Bishop dies her husband becomes the new bishop and she is suddenly "unmarried".

How can I change the heir to Bishop and get to keep her husband? I really don't want her to marry someone else because her husband has excellent traits and diplomacy values.

Appoint someone else as the heir. Marriage ain't a good enough reason to discount someone as a potential bishop appointee.

Bishop of a City? Not even sure how that's supposed to work.

I meant Bishop of a Bishopric of course...oops...

The Bishopric in question is under the vassalage of the County of Cordoba.

If it's under a count, then there's a problem, since you can't appoint an heir of a vassal's bishop. You can try and revoke the county just to set another heir, but that's a bit drastic, to be honest.

Ugh, this shouldn't have even happened to begin with. Married men should be ineligible for bishop inheritance.

It has to be some in-game bug, very few medieval men will be willing to throw away being the husband of a ruling Empress (plus the power, influence, and perks that went with it) just to become some mere bishop.

It could be a bug. As the husband nominated before the marriage. I have a case as king of germany in which my grandson (acknowledged bastard) became archbishop of hamburg. He was in my court, I never nominated him and i have papal investiture.

Try reloading the game?

Or, if you aren't on Ironman, use the console to play as the Bishop's liege and then nominate someone else to the position. Then console kill the current Bishop to make sure things don't get changed around. Then jump back.

Um, if you go back to a previous save, before he becomes a bishop, couldn't you simply have given a non-bishop title? Make him a count or something. That will disqualify him from the bishopric but keep him married to you.

Another option is to jump over to the Bishop's liege and just revoke that title.
