So my CN has 42.9 unrest in some provinces (separatism, intolerance, war exhaustion, negative stability etc. - ovextension is only 1.35 unrest), minimum is around 20 unrest in core provinces. Is there something that I can do in order to help them, besides killing their rebels when they spawn ? (I also give them subsidies).

Realistically? They're doomed, and not worth saving. If you're determined to save them, you need to subsidise and/or constantly pay off debts so they don't go bankrupt, stomp on rebels for them, and be at peace for ~ 20 years so their WE ticks down - the AI never buys it down with Dip points. Being at peace for so long is the main reason it's not really worth it to try.

I wish Paradox could add a possibility to put colonial nations on scutage, would prevent a lot of the problems they have.

Thanks, that was my fear. To be honest, it's my fault, I know that the AI doesn't buy WE down, but I forgot it, and I let my enemies occupy their land. This was a poor idea.

Peace is not an option, I'm trying a 1 Tag 1 Faith with a sunni Ottoman. My concern is that they probably never will convert their provinces. I suppose that the only solution is to kill their separatist rebels and at the end give them their independence, dow them and convert without coring.

Well good thing is that you only need one medium sized stack to defeat all the rebels in a CN. sounds still doable.

I wish Paradox could add a possibility to put colonial nations on scutage, would prevent a lot of the problems they have.
That would be useful, or maybe restrict them to fighting only in their colonial region. It's not like you saw colonial militia fighting in Europe during the 7 years war, just a lot of bloody and ugly warfare in North America. Being the UK at war with France in EU4 and seeing a small colonial navy trying to blockade Bordeux is just baffling from a historical perspective. I don't think really any colony was allowed to have much more than a coast guard equivalent to begin with, let alone fleets of galleons and man-o-wars.

If they break to rebels (>50% occupation, not capital occupation --> enforced) it puts their stab and WE at 0 (all rebels enforce demands). You only need 1 month tick at peace for this to happen if they're sufficiently occupied, and it might be the fastest way to clean up the mess.

Rebels are mainly separatist, I don't want to let them enforce demands (BTW, they haven't spawn yet - after 1-2 years, I even don't understand how it is possble - unrest is now 44.3 in some provinces - they lost 1 stab more).

If you can get something other than seps out, kill separatist rebels and let the other ones break them and they'll keep the land. Only rebels that are active (have troops or occupied province) enforce on break.

It's not like you have a lot of good options. If they break, and lose land they'll at least keep their state cores. CNs suck in this way.

attach a 10-4-10 army to one of their units, and the ai wil actually attack the rebels with it!

also, remove all and any forts the DAY you take terrain with concede colonial region, BEFORE it goes to your cn.

and, subsidising each cn can be worth it if you got the money. they'll start colonising when you give 'm 10 ducats or more.

usually, you can prevent them from death spiralling. but usually, why bother......
