My character suddenly changed religion for no reason?

So, I'm playing of Sultan Kilij Arslan III of Rum, from the Latin Empire start date. Things are going well, I'm expanding across Anatolia, when a couple decades in...

Without ever having had a secret religion, I suddenly switch from Sunni to Catholic! With no notification, event, or anything! All I get is the notifications telling me that now I'm a Catholic, I should get crowned, I have a different heir, I'm gonna lose titles on succession cause of gavelkind, one of my NAPs just went away cause my secondary marriages just got insta-annulled...

What happened? Does anyone know what could have caused this? Is this a glitch I'd need to submit a bug report for, or could there just be something within the intended game I didn't anticipate? If so, I'd expect it to at least give me an event of some kind...

(I can switch back since I have all expansions, but that sets me back 250 piety and 3 marriages, so I'd rather reload from an earlier save and try to avoid this happening again...)

Likely bug, had that happen to me once.

Reload and if it persists check if you have any Catholic courtiers or court physician. Some courtier and physician events can convert, granted they should pop up as an event and give you a choice between conversion, saying no and becoming a secret worshiper.

Thanks. My most recent save is the 1st January autosave, so I'll replay the half-year and hope it doesn't happen again. If it does (with no event again--this time I even checked the log and it made no mention of any event even there), I'll make an official bug report.

I use the Fraticelli to found the Outremener empire and the Shia Caliph title was destroyed and its holder ( Shia Caliph ) become the Fraticelli.
But the Sunni Caliph only lost the Caliph title and didn't change the religion.
It's funny.

In any case, I reloaded from the earlier save and it didn't happen again, so I guess it wasn't activated by anything specific.

Some years later into the game, the same thing happened, but now to Orthodox instead of Catholic. I can't identify anything that could have caused it so I'm submitting a bug report.

Could this be a legit (maybe poorly coded) event that's just not displaying any text? Maybe someone converted you? I know there are those events that convert characters to a heresy.

Any chance some of your relatives took a decision or event that converts someone's whole close family? You seem to have landed children, maybe those?

Does your character have a Catholic friend? I seem to recall a conversion event related to friends.

All these are possible, but as mentioned, I didn't receive any event or choice, so if any of these did happen, it must indeed be a bug that skips the actual event and applies one of the results.
