So I've been carefully grooming the heirs to my patrician dynasty over generations. One of the best yet just inherited. They inherit young (I pay big $ to keep my tyrant's hold on the Doge's seat, where I wield Absolute, Centralized Power). I'm playing Ironman.

And my 23 year old, awesome-statted cut-throat merchant hero just got Typhoid. I don't have any heirs worth shining his boots yet.

I do I love this game...

LOL that is why I groom multiple heirs! my best one always get killed in the varangian guards.
Then my second one turns homosexual and joined a holy order. . my third one gets some silly idea to go off adventuring and conquer some place in the middle of nowhere !
Before luckily coming home... what does he think starting a country in the middle of abbassid territory LOL he would become the new Emperor ?

I love elective succession because you can do just this and take big risks with them. Great son 1 wants to join the Varangians... sure, why not? Either he'll come back even better or I'll just nominate his brother, or his uncle, or his distant cousin that I have to grant an elector title for the sake of eligibility.
