USA is odd to play. It has a long and dull pre-war stage but is very powerful. You are not at risk, so you can focus on building different skills (Army, Navy, Air Force and Espionage). Steam says I have played HOI4 for over 2,300 hours and I still learn new things almost every time I watch YouTube. One good thing about achievements is that you are forced to play a path different from what you might normally play but some people just find them annoying. The great thing about HOI4 is that there are so many options. Check out the mods. When vanilla gets repetitive, there are fantastic alternatives.

Doesn't look like my original text made the cut.

After over 600 frustrating hours total playing this game, I finally got to what I would consider a successful result for USA along the standard allies route.

The war started on May 16, 1941. It took only a few months to clear the Pacific and take Japan but they were so ingrained in China that I had to take that out too. It was probably the only thing that kept India from being over-run too. Surprisingly my AI British, Raj and Australian allies didn't do too badly. They kept Italy busy and by the time I broke through Southern France, they were pretty well pacified. The Soviets opened up another front in Denmark, which was surprising because it looked like WWI on the Eastern Front. All this while I took what started as dozen divisions to crush the Germans and Italians through most of Africa. My forces at war's end: 124 Infantry division (mostly 20-width but some 40 and garrison), 33 motorized infantry, 7 marine divisions, 26 light tank, 11 medium tank and 4 heavy divisions; 13 CV, 22 BB, 33 CA, 59 CL, 258 DD and 164 subs; 3992 fighters, 1550 heavy fighters, 1849 CAS, 1192 naval bombers, 650 tactical bombers, 450 strategic bombers plus many more thousands in reserve. I gave back most of my German and Italian gains back to those Republics. Less than three years from start to finish.

My last game went to 1951 (I was doing the "Hardly Anything Sevres" achievement). I had a great start (as Turkey) but the Axis were very powerful. Every Allied landing was crushed. It took me 3 years to build the force I needed to beat the Axis. I think my early play was good but my late play was brute force. I'll be keen to see a good YouTuber show a more efficient path. Having said that, Communist China defeated Japan and the Axis were very powerful and I've never seen that combination before. Even on historical, every game can follow a different path.
