Hi!!
this is a new experiment to me so I hope it turns out well.

I would like to apologize ahead of time incease its not so entertaining to all those whos time I have wasted.

I am going to write the journal of Maximilan the first in my single player GC game. I am starting on the first day of his accendence to the throne and will go to his dying days.

Before I start I would like to update you on what my world has turned out to look like.

The settings are Very Hard and Aggressive

Starting date is August 25, 1493

Austria (MY COUNTRY)
Austria has grown to a country containing 11 provinces. Its still has all of its starting provinces; has conquered Schwyz from Helvetia, Istria from Venice, and Krain from Croatia; millitarily annexed Mantua and Diplomatically annexed Bavaria ( provinces Bayern and Ansbach ). Croatia has become a vassel of the great Austrian royalty.
My army is sectioned into thrids with the Imperial Guard in Krain and the other thirds in Mantua and Ansbach.
I have entered the central europe allicance containing Bohemia, Hessen, Cologne, and Helvetia.
I have a slightly tarnished reputation, but am liked by most of central and eastern europe.
Royal marriages with Spain and Hungary.

Now I will give you a brief overview of all the countries I am expecting to play major roles during the reign of Max I.

Bohemia (Strongest touching neighbor)
Bohemia has done well for itself. Through constant warefare it has managed to grab the provinces of Wursburg, Brandenburg, and Kurstrin, plus retain all of her national provinces. Also, Helvetia and Hessen are servants to the Bohemian crown (I'm kinda pissed about this because both were formally my vassels).
Bohemian armies are scattered all throughout its land, the only amry of signifigance (from now on i'll call it AofS ) is stationed to the east in Moravia.

Helvetia (Former eniemy, now ally)
Helvetia was once my vassel and on the brink of being diplo annexed. By smart choices with its millitary (surpising for the AI huh) it manage to conquer Baden and Alsace to the north while only losing Schwyz to Austria. One AofS (army of signifigance) in Alsace.

Hessen and Cologne are both small but atleast have managed to stay alive unlike most of the HRE which is mainly controlled by Burgundy and Bohemia.

So thats my allies I'll be back later to tell about my competitors and the start my journal.

I hope I got your interest.

Part II

Our Enimies are plenty and powerful.

France (The Giant of the West)
France is powerful. Containing 24 provinces within its realm, France streches from the Atlantic to Austria (just having annexed the country of savoy). Even most of Ireland is under its control. Its rivals are strong though. At the start of Max's reign, France is at war with the alliance of England and Burgundy. The only French ally is the pityfull country of Scotland with only its capital province left, just waiting to be annexed by the English. French armies are massed all around its kingdom, some numbering over 60,000 men. The total Austrian army only contains 58,000 soldiers.

Burgundy ( Conquerer of Central Europe )
That about explains it for Burgundy. The AI has chosen to strike to the east and let the English fend off the French. I can't say it was a bad choice to make. Its borders strech so far east through the Holy Roman Empire that it is only one province away from being neighbors with Poland. Burgundy and England waged war against the Central Alliance (Austria, Bohemia, Cologne, and Helvetia at the time) with poor results. Austrian armies were attacking the Burgundi capital and English territories in Central Europe were in full revolt. The result was the indepence of Hessen (which join forces against England right away ) and a total setback of Burgundy's advances into the east. All in all Burgundy has 15 provinces in Northern Central Europe and Lower France.

England (The Scattered Empire)
England controls provinces south of France, north of France, and in central europe; a grand total of 22 provinces. Its only weakness in central europe is that the central alliance was able to surround its remote holdings and leave them with no hope of reinforcements. Still, England is a very real power and one to be feared when it finally takes the last scothish province.

Spain (New on the scene)
Spain and Austria have been friendly to each other till just recently. When the province of Wurtemburg declared independence from England it join the alliance of Spain and Portugal. The Austrian Monarchy questions this move by Spain, wondering what she is secretly plaining for the future. Or could it just be that Spain fears the growing power of Bohemia and Austria? Either way, Austria is taking no chances.

Hungary (Allies???)
Austrian-Hungarian alliance? not this time around. Hungary actually has a negitive attitude towards the Austrian. It could be from thier former war with Croatia, but what ever it is Hungary took it upon herself to ally with Poland, Lithuania, and Denmark ( which has annexed Norway). This powerful eastern alliance could be a great thorn in the side of Austrian-Bohemian dreams of asperation.

THE WORLD AS OF AUGUST 25, 1493

Most of Europe has already been devided up. The large countries of France, Burgundy, Austria, and Bohemia dominate the continent, while England plays the antagonist just out of reach. The only major war is between the Anglo Alliance (England and Burgundy) and the Franco-Scot Alliance (Scotland may only have one province but they still have over 20,000 men so it will be a task). Maximilian I has been elected Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. The Sweds have struck into Novograd with the help of the Danes. Austria is surrounded by powerhouses and it will take great diplomatic moves and along with a strong millitary for Austria to survive let alone come out on top.

BTW at this time Austria leads in VP's (632) followed by Burgundy (555) and Denmark (399)

So now its time to play!!! Stay-tuned

Part III

THE TWENTY-FIFTH OF AUGUST, 1493 A.D.

"All Hail Maximilian the First, ruler of Austria and Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, the most glorious land of god."

that was what i heard today. heard for the first time. i have waited so long for this day, and yet now that it is apon me i feel no joy. no giddiness of the power i hold and no happiness about all the lands i now rule. the people, MY PEOPLE, mourn fredrick's passing. they scimper about and whisper that maximilian is weak. they say that because i have never stepped foot onto the battle field i can not rule a country. that i will drink the nights away in the warm arms of venetian madiens while the french march to austria. and then they dare to joke that i'll be pissing the sheets while they stab me in the back. AND THIS FROM MY OWN PEOPLE!!! no, there is no joy this day for maximilian. only hard thaught. they will mourn me one day like they mourn fredrick this day. no, they will grieve longer and louder when i pass, this do i swear on the holy bible. god hast put me here to rule, this i know.

THE FIRST OF SEPTEMBER, 1493 A.D.

my reign has just begun, this day. the period of mourning for fredrick is at its end. last night his officers swore oath to my name and i brought smiles to thier faces with ideas of glory for all of austria. these are my most trusted men. i left colonel Mariazell in charge of the imperial guard. his battlefield brilliance is just what i need to guide this country to greatness. as he left the gates to return to his troops a messenger arrived bearing great news. the french have laid siege to the capital of the burgundis. this will stall any advancement to the east they had planed, all the while keeping the french busiy with the siege.

scouts from the east have returned reporting even more unfolding events. the eastern christian alliance (Denmark,Poland,Lithuania, and Hungary) have declared war on the franco-scottish armies. hungary, those weaklings to my east, dishonored its name by failing to send troops to the aid of her breathren. this leaves hungary open for possible attack without response from whats left of the eastern christian alliance. a very interesting situation i will have to take advantage of when the time is right. but for now i watch and wait for news from the west. i wonder how long can the burgundis hold out? if the french gain anymore territory i will have to call council with vladislav II of bohemia so we can decide what actions to take. for now, i am content to wait. still lots of work to do around the keep replacing all the monuments of fredrick with my own likelyness.

Part IV

THE FOURTH OF SEPTEMBER, 1493 A.D.

the news is grand. a minor itallian alliance declared its crusade to stop the grow power of france. the kingdoms of venice and genoa sent troops, whilest milian did not. this leaves them unprotected right to my south. i have always love to visit milian. maybe i will conquer it and build a new capital in that grand city.

also, news of the french sending in reinforcements to the siege at berri. the burgundis have massed an enormous army in bourgogne to root out the french from their capital. one thing i wont mind is lots of frenchmen dying.

a rumor has spread that the french have almost total control over the island of ireland. i dispatched a few of my best scouts to find out the truth. to know your enemies movements is to have the advantage.

ARE YOU GUYS FOLLOWING THIS?????????
ILL WRITE MORE LATER

bohemia has done fairly well in my (ireland) game too. they've carved out a nice little chunk of territory in east central europe.

france doesn't dare set foot on my emerald isle... though my alliance with spain might have something to do with that. :D

did you start the game in 1492 or 1419? if 1419, then you've done well....

Part V

THE FIRST OF OCTOBER, 1493

vladislav of Bohemia has just left my rich city. we met to discuse the path our great nations must be directed towards. we chose the path of war. berri has fallen to the french. even though i have know of this for days it is still hard to comprehend. the long drown out battle of massive forces was diverted when the burgundi army struck north for oleanais. i see only foly in letting their capital being taken. the french are on the move and we must counter. i will not let them gain ground whilest i sit in my throne watching my captured helvetian women dance all night and day. the ladies can have my nights, but the day must be for the glory of austria.

word has reached us of a rejoining of hungary to the eastern christian alliance. though we are strong, to battle to the east, against their united forces would empty the treasurey and i have dreams of building a grand art workshop in my beloved city. milian is weak, but will stay weak. burgundy is weak, but will regain strength. that is where i see a weakness. i shall march my troops through helvetia into the lands of burgundy, while my friends from bohemia deal with them in the north. i fear not the anglos who hide on their isle. they tasted their own blood under fredricks reign and will do so under mine. LET MY LEGACY BE BORN!
