I might as well have a single thread to talk about what my current and future plans for my projects in AARland are. I hope the sheer number and variety of my projects is enough to warrant it.

I plan to resume the two gameplay-based AARs, Real Men Do It Alphabetically and Air PowAAR! as soon as possible. Hopefully by Thursday. As for Secrets of the AARk, we'll see how that goes.

The halls of the HOI2 LibrAARy are in terrible disrepair. However only three-sevenths of the total number of AARs exceed two pages by the old system. (why is new system 20 rpp aargh) Those I will prioritize first when I try to redo the entire library again. In fact, I think that I will require at least three pages for automatic inclusion into the LibrAARy. For everything else I will ask in the LibrAARy update thread for people to put forward AARs less than three pages they find worthy of inclusion in the LibrAARy, and I will put them in. I will also discourage people from posting in the update thread with 'Here's my latest AAR link in sig' because if it is your latest, it is likely still running, and thus will show up on the first page of HOI2AARland on a regular basis, so it would not need to be archived in the LibrAARy, now would it? Sadly, I don't think I can undertake this project before Spring Break arrives, which will be the last week of this month. This new system however will greatly ease the burden.

As for the AARland Choice AwAARds, the ones for 2007 Q1 will start up sometime in early April. Thanks again to phargle for continuing it in my absence. There are many things to think about for this next round, the happier being a new category introduced for EU3, the sadder being the continuing decline of the Vicky, CK, and now the EU2/1 sections. Though it is not there yet, plans will have to be made for when the number of AARs updated can no longer sustain the five awards awarded. A solution would be to consolidate all five into simply a Best AAR for that game, though I find that a bit too harsh, suited for only HOI1-levels of activity. An intermediate measure might be to have each person pick two 'Best' AARs and give two awards to the first and the second. Of course I believe this becoming an issue is still a ways away.

And the Advocate. I would have been a contributor by now, but typical anonymous4401 reliability put a stop to that. And now I have no idea where it is. Is it dead? Please tell me it isn't. :(

And now for future plans, and this is where I'll need to ask for help. The overarching goal of these plans are to ensure the continuation of activity in the CK and Victoria AAR forums, even if I have to do it myself! To that end, I already have in mind a successor to Real Men Do It Alphabetically, for after it ends, if it ever does. So basically I see myself writing a CK gameplay AAR of some sort for the next two years! I also have a mind to start a second CK AAR, that of narrative, to just get back into writing again.

I also want to write a Vicky AAR. Not just a Vicky AAR, but two Vicky AARs. Fortunately, I have two ideas, just enough for two Vicky AARs. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble getting them to work.

The first idea would have been titled 'Wall Street - The Victoria Stock Exchange', inspired by calcsam's Korean Stock Exchange AAR from three and a half years ago. However, thinking about it, the flaws became apparent, as Vicky's political atmosphere is much different from EU2, and borders shifted in the established areas far more predictably. I could have continued with it anyways, but these flaws drove me mad.

The second idea would have been titled 'The Modern Age' and would be a narrative set in the Depression-Era United States. Except that there is no Depression because the world is ruled by a technocracy that rose to power with the aid of the fantastic electric inventions of Tesla--the inventor himself living in self-imposed exile within a gigantic mysterious mechanical tower that dominates Times Square. The problem is that I can't figure out a way to make the game relate to this at all. I suppose I could write it as a 'fanfic', but I'd really rather not do that, and if I did shouldn't it be more suited for the HOI2 forum?

So in closing, I ask for your Victoria AAR ideas. Throw them at me and see what sticks. And you're free to take mine if you can make them work.

I believe its dead, but remember - That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons even death may die.

He he, as if. ;) Btw, Humphrey, don’t forget to point me to some of your own work of the genre.

Metallica, isn`t great old one? :D Lovecraft is great

My Metallica interest doesn’t go any further than the black album, but yes Lovecraft is indeed great. :)

I’ll leave it to Singleton Mosby to give you the final answer, but yes he ‘hinted’ as much when I last spoke to him.

HP Lovecraft :)

As for the Advocate...I wouldn't say dead, but it's definitely resting.

Non-gameplay-relatedness is not much of a problem. My "Hussite Lament" had little basis on gameplay material and was actually composed without playing any EUII game first - it was just a pure short story for storytelling's sake. Similarly, my current offering, "Debts Unpaid", is based on historical events (with some ahistorical additions), and I'm using history books and biographies to provide my geopolitical framework.

I wish you could use my idea, offered a few months ago, of having the World Cup or Olympics somehow determine geopolitical conquests (ie, Sweden defeats Czech Republic in a soccer match, so Sweden annexes the Czechs) but that's really not very good for the Victoria timeframe. You could do Victoria and her descendants as a cheesy episode of All My Children, or maybe as a sitcom. ("Hi, I'm Wilhelm, and this is my wife and our darling children. It's not about the kids. My parents ... live across the street. Thaat's right. And my brother Robert lives with them. Now, not all European intermarried families would go by on a conveyor belt for you, but mine would because ..." EVERYBODY LOVES WILHELM)
