1. i have no control over where my storage facilitys are bringing their goods, especially if they are allowed to export
this would be no big problem if not for the other 2
i would like to have the ability to disalow export or at least reserve some trucks for local delivery only so that my resource depndant industry does not starve/import because all the trucks are off to the edge
setting some facilitys to fill is imo only a bad workaround, but at least reduces the problem somewhat

2. processing industry and unique industry dont order their stuff from the closest warehouse, but from anywhere on the map
this makes decentralised storage and production worse then all industry centralised in one area and leads to clogged up roads and, at least for me, 2-3 storage facility with all trucks used and every other with <5 trucks used but mostly 0 trucks used
i would expect the big consumers to order from the closest facility possbile, instead of somwhere on the other side of the map, so that the resources arive befor the porduction stalls
this is a bigger problem for unique factorys, since all but 4 of them use plastics and thus would be needed to be build all in the same area for the system to work, which means all new industry needs to be bunched up or there will be problems with other products

3. delivery trucks prefer roads way to much
even when there is a direct link with cargo train terminals (like 2 blocks away from sorce and destination) more then half the amount send will be delivered by road only, which is especially iritating on exports, which go to any edge of the map (not even the closeste but mostly random)
and just by the way, deliverys from the same storage were done, road-only or with train at random, to the same unique factory without any changes in the infrastructure anywhere, so there has to be some kind of problem
i would expect more then 90% of the goods deliverd to use the train/ship/plane when possible and fast enogh, as this would reduce the severity of problem 1 almost entirely(trucks drive only to the train/ship/plane instead of the edge/other mapside -> more then half, and in many cases ~90% less distance for the truck)

i am entirely not sure if the current simulationcode allows any of my expectations, but some improvement should be possible

1: Make more/better storage facilities.

2: I kind of agree. It would be really nice if this were the case but I don't think it'll be an easy fix. This quirk of the AI applies to everything. Fire trucks aren't always sent by the closest fire station. Death care doesn't always come from the closest. Ambulances...you get what I am saying. So changing this might not be able to be done in a reasonable time frame.

3: This one I fully agree with and should be fixed. Old industry uses cargo heavily. So we know this behavior already functions in the game and just didn't move on to the new industry. Please fix.

Storage facilities to say it frankly is a pain in the behind. Never ever send produce to industry. All truck are doing longhaul selling produce never minding local industry needs.

Only solution I see is make local industry pull own resouces with own trucks or divide trucks local and export local.

I've found that it's simply a question of enough storage. When storage facilities are too full for their target values, they send all trucks out to export in the attempt to get down to the target values. If more stuff gets delivered to them than they can export, then they'll never get to their target and so the trucks will never be available to send out locally. Sure, it would be handy if you could force them to always have 2-5 vehicles standing by for local delivery, but we have to live with how things work (unless a mod is made ofc).

For every resource I've had issues with not reaching my factories, placing enough storage for at least one of them to be in their target value and able to stay there (=always some available trucks) has solved it. If you have a really high production it will be a lot of storage, but it works.

while just adding more storage helps with problem 1, they need to be close enough to the consuming industry or those will stall do to running out of resources because truck was to slow

so i would need a central location for all storage to minimize the randomnes of the deliverytime, and have the industry reasonably close to reduce the average deliverytime below the time untill stalled

this would lead to a giant warehouse and unique industry area which will be completly overrun by trafic from all the incoming and outgoing traffic

meanwhile my generic industry cant be to far away either or they wont recive delivery in time, but they have a much higher time till abandoned so they can be situated all around the exits of this industrial zone

and since delivery trucks seme to have a rng on board and ignore anythig but roads when the rng tells them to, placing cargo train there wont help much unless i completely cut the zone of from outside traffic and deliver everything in/outgoing by train
with the way cargo trains are working not the best idea

so all my industry is now in a giant cluster of like 2-3 citysquares and all the workes are trying to get through the quagmire of trucks, further increasing the traffic hell

after my obsevations unique industry needs about 1 truck per week ( may differ depending on specific type) and since they wont order new material untill they are down to 6t of that resource we have ~5-6 in game days to deliver, which is very tight or even impossible if the recipient is more then 1 citysuqare away with low traffic
add to that the giant traffic hell i get from bunching all of them up, i end up with trucks that need 1 week for some five blocks and dont make the way to short deadline

my conclusion: problem 2 and 3 needs some kind of fix so that i can actually place a reasonable logistics chain
or at least problem 3 needs a fix with a big buff to industries resource storage so theycan hold more then 1.75 truckloads and will order new resources earlier to not run out and have more then 1 truck on delivery at the same time

In my experience it doesn't need to be like that. The city I've been playing is 3x2 city tiles large with industry at the furthest ends and in the middle. I don't have any central storage. I store the raw materials in the area and have added storage near the factories missing resources. My refinery is at the opposite end of my ore industry, so it complained about metal pretty often. Dropped a storage yard with metal close to it and the issue was solve. Besides that I have one warehouse storing metal in the ore industry and a cargo station there exporting stuff. I've done the same every time I've had a factory have issues with a resource. I know they won't always get the delivery from nearby, but in my city chances are greater for the one near the refinery to have free trucks than the one in the ore area (it's busy exporting).

I'm not saying I never have a factory that complains about resources (my traffic isn't great either) and I don't have every single unique factory in that city, but it isn't impossible to reach a pretty good flow of reasources without a central storage or super traffic flow. Sure the AI could be smarter and that would make things less of a hassle, but you can work within the limitations of it, it just requires some trial and error, and not commiting to a design so much you can't change it if it doesn't work.

I can't really comment on generic industry - I haven't paid any attention to it since I unlocked the industry areas. It isn't complaining, but where it gets its resources from and where its goods go I couldn't tell you. I should probably build a warehouse storing normal goods to supply my commercial.

well it might be some mod then since i have several unique industries right next to the storage with needed resources, also direct cargo train line from the production area, but the unique industry is not working around half the time, because some truck decided to deliver the resources by road over a distance of ~2.5 citysquares
and this some truck happens way to often sadly, with plastics often being the deliverd resource despite being distributed all around town for all the factorys that need it
