Well. I got two campaigns going. (am waiting to read the user manual before I proceed on my original campaign as I still have outstanding questions the game hasn't uncovered yet).

The complaint from me though (hoping someone has a fix or recommendation).

Carpel Tunnel Syndrome; I have to click every gawddam province to either see if it has done it's modifications or to activate improvements.

Is there a keystroke to set a province in motion (improve land defence, coastal, air or IC improvements?) or a way to cancel if your hand gets tired an presses another button by mistake?

Is it just me or is the game very mouse dependant?

I tried pressing every key in different screens to see what the options are and it is very limiting.

Am I also the only one who actidentally pulls up a dos prompt when thinking he pressed the pause key??

Is there any custom keystroke mods? Carpel Tunnel syndrom should be a consideration when making games

As for the Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, yes, I see what you mean! I have seen a number of posts about this and about quick keys... Issues about re-mapping hot keys and issues about the need for more short cut keys in general, typically making province improvements...

As for re-mapping existing hot keys, there seem to be several alternatives to try, but I can only remember seeing one thread approaching the issue with making new keys and/or semi-automate province improvements. Can't find it now, sorry, but it could have been something about using F12 and event scripting.
I believe there is no really good solution for what you are after, but perhaps some real grey beard here can prove me wrong. Its a bit of a shame, but I guess (hope!) there was a reason for this design at the design stage...

Anyway, I guess many people feel like that at first, but then learn how to work around it as good as possible.
For example, if you really need to know when a province improvement is completed, use the pop-up messages for this: don't bother clicking around to check status. You will also learn what improvements you really need to do anyway. You will learn to prioritize. Building improvements everywhere at any time isn't feasible and probably wont' make sense anyway. Personally I have felt the problem while playing the largest countries, but even then, the problem have usually been at the start up stage of the country and then decreased.

Ho! Be happy this is an almost deserted forum about a game that most have abandoned. Tat way you won't so easily get flamed :)

Anyway, no. There's no shortcut or quick way to do upgrades or check their completion.

What you can do, however, is to click the economy tab on the left side of the minimap and zoom out. Now you'll see all the provinces eligible for upgrades as light green while all those not available for upgrades are in dark green. This way at least you'll save clicking some province in vain.

Set the message settings to make sure you are prompted when something has completed its upgrade and use the correct map [fourth button next to the mini map] to ensure you have all provinces possible upgrading. It will have to be done individually Im afraid.

Yes its rather mouse dependent, but so what? :)

For mapping hot keys~

Havent used it myself though.

There is an updated user manual which should be dl from my sig.

If you set the map on the economy tab, provinces in which improvement projects are underway will display a turning cog (if I remember correctly). There is a fixed period of time each type of project -- you'll internalize that sooner or later. The only surprise is that land and (again if I remember correctly) beach fortifications take increasingly long the higher the fortification level is. That makes me wonder how long in HOI terms those 10 factor Maginot line provinces would take.
