Just for reference, this has already been fixed and is entirely moddable by now by using the intermarry parameters in the 00_religions.txt file. It is however not a vanilla feature by itself so people who wish to use this will have to use the intermarry parameter, i.e. adding it themselves.

It's not a vanilla feature - fixing it changes the checksum.

What people are basically wanting (as I interpret it) is that the hard block of ----- "Must not marry infidel" should be only ----, which can be overcome with political gains (powerful ally), prestige effects, spouse skills etc. And or vanilla, that is.

Pretty much. Existing pagan mechanics applied to other religions would essentially mean that alliances with equal level rulers but of different religions would not happen and one would always have to "marry down". It would still give some options instead of "Holy war, hire holy orders, blitz" method which is normal when dealing with infidels. Anything which gives bit more variation to game can never be too bad.

The link works, but you can't actually download the file. The download button is essentially a refresh button. Can someone re host it on a proper website? One that doesn't have links to virus laden websites in the sidebar?
Correction: *you* can't actually download the file. I just did *again*. It works perfectly for me, so there appears to be a problem at *your* end. This is even more obvious when you mention "links to virus laden websites in the sidebar". I see no sidebar. What sidebar are you talking about? Maybe you should check your system for viruses.

Here's what the page looks like for me:

Just to note, I see the download button uses JavaScript. Do you maybe have that turned off?

... This is already moddable, plus, muslims seem to be able to marry nestorians.

Anyone can marry anyone so long as they are a courtier in the court of yourself or someone as the same religion as you - nestorians mainly exist in muslim areas, so this is likely what you are seeing. Its also possible that some religions have specific exceptions, but as far as I know that ability is unused outside of the pagan religion in vanilla.

This actually leads to the odd situation where you never see plausible intereligious marriages like the (historical) ones between Iberian rulers, or the Turks and the Byzantines, or any group of christians and the local pagans, but every now and then you get requests from someone asking you if they can marry some lowborn heathen who somehow ended up in your court.

I would also say that just because something is moddable doesn't mean it isn't an issue. In this case, yes it is moddable, but doing so takes time as its not simply a switch like 'can marry heathens = no' which you change to 'can marry heathens = yes', but rather you have to do so for each individual religion and say which religions they can marry. Secondly it isn't even particularly useful to mod, as doing so leaves you with the problems that were before you couldn't marry heathens, as there is no nuance to the limitation, its either there or it isn't - there may or may not be a general penalty on marrying wrong religions if it is allowed (its been a while, I can't remember) but even if there is, there is no distance limitation so enabling it means its as easy for say the king of scotland to marry the queen of mali as it is for a turkish sultan to marry a byzantine princess. Adding nuance here is impossble because these modifiers are hardcoded; in some cases you have the choice of having them enabled or not, but there is no way to change them or add new ones.

And of course, just because something is moddable doesn't actually say whether it should be changed or not in vanilla. Paradox constantly alters things that are moddable to change the balance of the base game, that something can be changed by a modder isn't inherently an argument that it shouldn't be changed by paradox.

I've noticed something rather odd with this. In a recent game as the Norse king of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, the Catholic Duchess of Trondelag wouldn't marry my heir. In this case, I think it makes no sense whatsoever. She's my vassal and I could freely revoke her title at any time. Marrying into the royal family not only ensures that her children would be future kings, but it also shields her from forced conversion or removal of titles. I can't for the life of me think of any reason a person in such a position wouldn't agree to the marriage, making the mechanic very immersion breaking for me.

I notice you appear to have an adblocker. That is likely what is preventing the sidebar from appearing for you.
