To echo the question above, has anyone actually amended the necessary files to get things working? I'm still on 1.10, and not updating to 1.11 until they sort out the bugs... and a little confused by the coversation between happycats 517 and DragonScythe above.

Well, that's the thing, unless I'm missing something, my files SHOULD be set up so ANY religion is alright with marrying ANY OTHER religion. However, when I test this, I still always get a no with "----- must not marry infidel".

Looking at the religious files, it seems like all it should take is adding:

"intermarry = <religion>"

to the entry of a religion if you want it to intermarry with another religion. I've done that for each religion, adding an intermarry option with every other religion in the game, but it doesn't seem to alleviate the "must not marry infidel" problem. I think I'll do some more basic testing to see if maybe I just screwed up somewhere.

Alright, a basic test between just catholic and sunni does not get rid of the "must not marry infidel" penalty. Has anyone run this with two religions of the same religious group? Say, Suomensko and Norse? Does it simply tell the AI to marry a religion in its own religious group more often?

I think I'll set it up later tonight and run an observe game, then flip through the history of Norse and Suomensko rulers and see if there are a fair amount of marriages between the two religions.

So after thirty years, I saw a few Soumensko and Norse marriages in Svitjod after they took over Sami (The Soumenkos in de jure Sweden), but that's it. I'll update this post if something more happens.

I think that they've added a penalty to intermarriage between pagan religions, and the new modifier negates that penalty. Note the devs' example - they gave the "intermarry" trait to Norse and Norse Reformed. Before 1.11 I don't think you'd have needed that - there wouldn't have been any penalty between two different subgroups anyway.(?) When I tested it (1.11), I noticed that when I tried to arrange a marriage across religion groups I got "Must not marry an infidel -----" note 5 -'s, but when I tried marrying between pagans I got "Must not marry an infidel ----" with 4 - s. So the interpagan "must not marry an infidel" won't block marriages between, say, West African and Finnish pagans, but makes them less likely.

I could be wrong - I tested this a little, not for very long.

I think the penalty (and therefore the AI tendency) should still be there. But the _block_ is something we all want removed. Again, the AI Sultan of Persia shouldn't be giving his daughters to Christian counts but dukes and kings could achieve (no prestige penalty) especially after gifts etc.

BritNavFan appears to be right. All pagan religions have a must not marry infidel penalty, unless they have the intermarry lines added to their religion entry.

@Prince Michael: I see your point, but I'd rather see how it works for the pagan religions be applied to everyone. In other words, without the intermarry line added, they have a big malus for must not marry infidel but they still consider their opinion of you and the prestige effects along with other things, but if you throw the intermarry line in, then the malus is dropped altogether, though this is a personal preference based on the fact that I like modding my game to create craziness, honestly having the intermarry line just remove the block would probably work better. Or maybe if it's intermarrying within your religious group, there's no malus with the intermarry line, but if it's outside your religious group then you still have the malus but with a high enough opinion/prestige/other factors you can obtain a marriage. But that might just be needlessly complex.

Indeed. Something the game is working towards is allowing the historical outcome to be possible in a game, and the blocking intermarriages does seem to be a step back...

You know what's dumb? Paradox added the intermarry parameter and applied it to a total of ONE (!) religion and it's heresy. Which religion? Why of course, Norse Paganism.

There's just no excuse not to make this moddable. It's completely demotivating me to play the game (and to buy DLCs, dear Paradox!). And I really don't want to go hunting for torrents of older versions, which I'd then have to integrate my mini-mods into.

How? Has a new patch been released in the last few hours? Or does the "intermarry" code actually solve the problem, despite what the people above are reporting? Or do you mean the convoluted mod that requires console + rejected offer + event, etc.?
The "intermarry" parameter does solve the problem, but Paradox have only added it to work for Old and Reformed Norse marriages by default. Yet another dumb thing where the Norse get favoured.

So nothing was fixed.... Well no point on patching the game then.
It can easily be fixed, but if Paradox does it I hope that it has some limits, like muslims and christians not being able to marry while pagans and muslims or christians would be able to marry.

Well, in theory all you'd need to do is:
Code:
intermarry = "muslim"
intermarry = "pagan_group"
intermarry = "zoroastrian_group"
for christians, and a parameter for the reformed pagan religions group whose name I do not know.
