Twice it happened in my current game. The first time I was not sure, now I am:

I try to revoke a vassal title. He refuses and go to war against my rule. I win the war: not a white truce, I win it. Next the guy is jailed, I want to revoke and the possibility is greyed out: "must have a special revoke reason if we have a truce".

WTF? I went to war because he did not comply, he capitulated but, still, I'm stuck. Basically, totally loosing the war is a win for him.

Is the title that you want to revoke the capital of the republic? It looks like it is, and if so you can't revoke it. Also you can't revoke the top title of a republic.

If it is the case, why does the tooltips claims it prevents me from doing so because of the truce? See below

Also, why would I not be able to revoke a duchy rank title of any form in my kingdom?

This will just be an ongoing problem. AI Doges are almost always quite old and rarely rule more than 10 years.

Why are you so keen on revoking that title? If you want to get rid of the republic, another way to do it is give a strong vassal with lands inside Northumbria the Duchy of Northumbria. He'll have a dejure claim on it and sooner or later take the capital county of the republic. If they have no other lands, the republic will disappear and you will be free to re-create the duchies.

DO NOT do this this though if you hold lands in Northumbria. He'll just create even bigger problems for you as he'll desire the land.

Was the war about the title you tried to revoke? He owns two republics and i think you are just allowed to revoke the title you fought about.

It is the same in all cases. Thing is: why the tooltip mention a truce? If there is any other reason than a truce to disallow it, then it should print this instead.
And if it is because of the truce, consequence on the won war, that is obviously a bug.

Anyway, I managed to revoke the title by waging war of another motive. I went for a while cathar and so get rid this annoying republic with no problem as the doge was catholic. Why getting rid of them: too impredictable with elective monarchy.

Yeah, it seems like a bug, provided the title you tried to revoke that provoked the war was the one you tried to revoke afterwards. It's obviously silly that, if you revoke a title and the person in question refuses, you cannot then revoke that title.

In fact, I've found that, when someone declares a rebellion against me, I can revoke all of their top-level titles even with a truce. Presumably, "they're a traitor" counts as a "special revoke reason", which makes perfect sense, really, since anyone who rebelled against their lord was unlikely to keep their titles for very long afterwards. I'm not sure why that isn't the case here, but it sounds like it really should be and, therefore, this appears to be a bug.

However, if it is a bug, then it should be reported in the bugs subforum. Otherwise, Paradox probably won't notice it.

It is like this.
The message was the same whatever title to revoke I picked. And in intrigue was still shown the "revoke...".

I often do revoke after rebellions. It is really funny that in this case, I could not revoke especially after a rebellion on the cause that I asked for a revocation.
