I agree with limiting the sailing capabilites of the moslem countries. One way to counteract the risks of northern countries taking attrition damage and the costs of traveling to the south could be to make the areas that were historically crusader goals be worth more than they currently are. This could be something very powerful and could give incentive to all christian states to run to the holy land. Gigantic prestige and piety bonuses for example. I'm not sure if this currently exsists as i'm rather new, but this is really what the reasoning for crusading was in the first place historically. My two cents.

Childeric :)

I side with those who don't like the muslim sea invasions. For me, seeing something like the Muslims invading England by sea from North Africa totally destroys my "suspension of disbelief" (to use a term usually employed in regard to fiction writing). I want something that at least seems historical, even though it doesn't follow history in lockstep.

Because of this one issue, I've shelved CK until I see what changes in 1.04 (assuming that's in the works).

Was there ever during the CK period a naval transport from the atlantic to the mediterranean, or vice versa, of any size worth mentioning? I know very early on in 800s there was a viking raid into the mediterranean?

If not why not just close the straights of gibraltar, this would require mediterranean voyages to start on a mediterranean shore and atlantic voyages to start on an atlantic or baltic shore.

It certainly did occur from the direction of the Christians, but not from the Muslim side...

I think the whole seagoing thing should be looked at.

Saw on tv a few days ago a documentary about the battle of Hastings. William the Conquerer invaded England with 7000 men, they used 700 ships.

In the game you can go on a seaborne mission with 20.000, 40.000 or 100.000 or even more. This should be made impossible or much more expensive.

BTW
The topic of the muslim seaborne invasions has been discussed before. My point is that as long as the christians from the north can go invading muslim lands by sea, muslims should also be able to do it. Or you as a human player have a much to big advantage.

Why not just have the muslims be more able to wipe out the scandinavians? Having them sail to Finland is just plain retarded, and if it's deliberately used to improve gameplay then give us the option to have it another way! Like via difficulty setting or aggression or something.

And going overseas should cost WAY more then it does currently.

How about if transit cost was exponential instead in linear.

It would be very cheap to haul 100 men, but 1000 men would require more ships. If you think about it getting one ship should be relatively easy, getting two not very different, but 100? and if you need a 1000, how many ships are available it takes time to gather them it is a huge logistical nightmare. I know this can't be simulated in current engine, but making the cost higher would be very easy to do and I think a logarithmic increase in transport cost would be a great way to do it. Seaborne invasions were not all that common, and from 1066 onward they were mostly launched by kings and Dukes so great they were practically kings already, not little counts or the Duke of Meath.
