Pretty short and obvious issue here.

SoI Muslim gameplay revolves around the decadence system to a great degree [which forced you to either imprison/execute family members, and/or be on constant conquest].

Are characters of a dynasty within a republic NOT gonna contribute to decadence by default?

How do you guys think this will be dealt with for Republics?

They have to make changes to decadence regardless, right now dynasty members with a different religion will affect your decadence (landing fatimids in your realm is actually a good way to tear their main realm apart)
They should change decadence to a per realm basis and republics probably shouldn't have it

I wonder how any non-Christian Republics would work in-game, regardless. I've seen a few of them pop-up, anyways, and Cordoba's a republic at game start for whatever reason (I think). Would a Muslim republic have decadence, but also the republic features at the same time? What about pagan republics? How about a Mongol vassal republic?

Actually, the caliphate was semi-electoral during the first 4 chalips from what i know. Then there was a succession crisis after Ali, resulting in the Karbala incident. After that the Ayyubid's and Abbasid's made it a hereditary titles, until Atatürk (The person in my avatar) dissolved it in the early 20th century and banished the caliph and all Ottoman dynasty members out of modern Turkey. So muslims need to be able to form republics. Especially since their titles are not hereditary (If i remember right) and can practically be given to anyone.

I think wealthy merchants living in large cities are decadent, indeed the epitome of decadence, by the Muslim historian's definition. So it doesn't make sense for the mechanic to apply to them.

Judging by the story, Paradox doesn't seem to be thinking about Muslim trading cities at all. It was normal for them to be inland (Fez, Timbuktu, Samarkhand). Hormuz is on the coast, but I'm not sure whether it counts as "coastal" or not.

At the moment I don't think they gain decadence at all, but there might be other jobs or events you can send family members off to?

Italy can be invaded by the AI however, so how will they tackle that one if they don't pay it passing thought at least? I think the republics should have higher decadence too but some way to reduce it somehow, maybe a decision or three, and some events would be welcome.
