right now its too easy to war decc someone's whose revolting and basically take half of an entire kingdom (with scattered blobs here and there) without the main king being able to fight back effectively

I understand that it's a little gamey, but it's actually pretty historically accurate(though more common would be assisting the revolt & and then peacefully vassalizing them afterwords), so I would keep it the way it is.

It worked better when they could only pick off individual counties/duchies that were revolting from their king. It's a little problematic now, I agree.

itd be accurate if the original kingdom could make peace with the revolt after the aggressor occupies one holding which currently disallows you to make peace until theres nothing occupied
either allow making peace peace even after holdings are occupied by outsiders or disallow the stronger CB's (invasion for example) being used on revolters

As a modder, I. f*&$king. HATE. the. new. faction. "upgrade."

For reasons like this. And many, many more. And I can't really do a damn thing about it w/o screwing over perfectly correct preexisting mechanics that still apply in most cases.

Paradox totally hacked their way around a proper way to upgrade factions to achieve their desired effect in a piss-poor way with weird side effects. ... When the could have instead allowed for more correct alternative representations of the decentralized HRE, coalitions / alliances, etc. to be modded-in if they'd just done The Right And Simple Thing: introduce a type of game object that represents an arbitrary group of rulers (which automatically inherits membership upon death). But, noooo, that'd let the modders beat Paradox to the inevitable HRE DLC that, of course, still won't allow the level of depth that such a simple modding abstraction would, whenever that DLC arrives.

Don't mind my vapors... And, yes, I'm exaggerating around a point. [Seriously, Paradox? Why hardcode stuff when you can just cleanly put simple, utterly basic abstractions in soft-code which encapsulate every capability you're hardcoding and about a thousand that you haven't even considered yet? Being a modder-friendly company also means delivering modder-friendly technical design.]

Except there's no clear mod-accessible way now to distinguish between a fair invasion target title in a revolt (perhaps huge and stalled for several years, as I've been seeing in my test games since 2.1) and an unfair one, unfortunately. Any "solution" would screw over a different annoying case.
