There have been instances (especially earlier, from the Middle Ages) where royal marriages took place between Muslims and Christians, typically when the relationship between the two was highly unbalanced. Yet if it were made possible in the game it would be far more common than it ever was historically.
That's the problem. Personally I would say that if RM between Christians and Non-Christians were to become a thing, it needs to be something with a rule that is similar to: "Christians can only RM non-Christians, if one of the parties would be able to diplo-vassalize the other were they both of the same religion".

Seems too convoluted and restrictive, especially since vassalization also depends on tech group. Sure, some of the best examples are as Chamboozer describes (Mara Brankovic of Serbia, for example) so perhaps it should just be based on tech group, like you can RM outside your religion if within 1 tech group step. Thus Ottoman could RM Eastern, which covers most (all?) of the historical examples between Muslim and Christians in Europe.

If it did happen, why is everyone reluctant to give examples other than that of a Byzantine princess and some Coptic tribe in faraway Ethiopia? I'm merely asking for positive proof in this timeframe that amongst royalty, this was not an exception - and the only things proven by the Byzantine casus, is indeed, the exceptional character of that unison.

The thread is 3 pages long, a little reminder about the ongoing discussion, or as in the post quoted: 'other than the Byzantine cases'. Can you give me an example of LATIN christianity (Latin meaning as in 'catholic', subject to the pope, etc etc). The Byzantine casus amounts to what one calls the exception proving the rule. Nobody as of yet has succeeded to put forth any other example of such a unison in this relative timeframe, all are fringe cases or way in the past. Other than the Byzantines there seemed to have been no other Latin Christian power ever to consider to do this during this timeframe.
