Given the great selection of music from BIS in both EU2 and HOI, I was wondering what kind of music selection will be included in CK. Pre-13thc polyphonic period music is extremely obscure, and it seems to me that an acapella soundtrack would be inappropriate in a strategy game. Thoughts?

The music will be new original material, written specifically for the game.

A few quotes (from the FAQ thread) from Sergei:
- "I have heard the music when I was visiting the Ruler of the North, and it is great. I wish I could tell more but Johan's hands are far-reaching and deadly . Rest assured however that compared to EUII, CK's soundtrack is a way, way above. You will be surprised by who and what is there."
- "(...) a very very good score. with passion. with imagination. the person writing the music is not only a superb composer but also very much personally involved in the topic."
- "I bet half of you (jez, even more!) on this forum know this chap's music and heard at least two or three pieces. He is, like, quite famous :)".

Great! BTW, a search for "music" using the search tool at the bottom of the page yields 0 results (perhaps the search feature is not functioning properly).

Even though its out-of-period, I can already see myself playing the Empire to Wagner.

Game begins, 1066, "Entrance of the Gods into Valhalla". The first time I invade Italy, its "Ride of the Valkyries". The election & coronation of a new king, "Siegfried's Funeral". And finally, for my imperial coronation, its the prelude to Die Meistersinger...;)

I assumed that "personally involved with the topic" meant involved with the Middle Ages, not CK. That still leaves the question as to what "superb" composer is interested in this time period.

I cannot begin to express how greatful I am for that. Don't get me wrong, the music in EU2 and HoI is OK....but I still feel its the "cheap way" to do it. Writing specific music for a game, done well, is a lot more involving than 100 epic music works "thrown in" just as filler material.

BTW, Rammstein could work for the battles! Links 2-3-4, Bück Dich, Tier etc :D

Damn, I was hoping all of the music would be old Hank Williams tunes :) No real reason, but the thought of hearing "Take These Chains From my Heart" after destroying oen of my oppoentns and forcing him to bow to me jsut seems only fitting. Also, I just really like ol Hank. *sighs* I'll jsut shelve it next to my plan to have the HOI soudntrack be compiled of Bob DYlan music :p

The screaming shrew was just a bad recording of an otherwise beautiful 16th century madrigal. I took the liberty of replacing the EU2 version with a much better recording by the same group.

If CK includes Rammstein tracks (whom I otherwise love), I will personally go to russia and bring an axe, stopping by the paradox offices on my way through sweden...talk about music that in no way reflects either the period or the mood...

Hmmm... it is only a speculation... and probably not correct... but trying to add 2 and 2 together...

The music is to be moving, epic and medieval... yet cinematic and composed by a modern composer apparently...

AND

Paradox acquired rights to Conan character and are planning to make a film...

Perhaps my conclusions are too far reaching (they guy may just as well be dead already)... but it could be great if the music was composed by Basil Pouledaris :p

(But as I said, I am probably wrong :))

I remember in music appreciation having to listen to gregorian monk chats. We got through it barely and had a sigh of relief when the teacher informed us "now class, on to volume two.."

Oi!

The worst part is she closed her eyes and smiled as we listened to the CD. Nodding her head as if she enjoyed it.

Music appreciation sounds very strange. Is it there to force americans to like the same music? Do they play all kinds of music, from classical to black metal? Or just a "political correct" line, with no controversial bands etc? But...perhaps Dimmu Borgir is a bit to much... :D:D
