Music to my ears

One of the things I would like is music based off your culture and time frame.

It is kind of strange that if you played as an Indian tribe you'd hear European classical muisc. The same goes if you play as China, Ottoman Empire, and any other kingdom that was not in Europe.

Personally, I'd like different sets of music depending on time and location. If I play Aztecs I'd like to hear South American Tribal music. If I play Middle Eastern I want to hear music with the calls from the prayer tower and so on.

Sure that might take up a lot of room, but 10 songs devoted to each culture wouldn't be more than 500mb of mp3s. (10 cultures x 10 songs x 5 mb)

Yes, that was why I said it was far better than the one of HoI2: at least it had an epic feeling, which reminded me of motion pictures about crusaders. I would have, anyway, prefered real medieval music

The problem with cultural music is that, nowadays, practically only records of European/Middle-Eastern musics of that period remain. Do we have any "typical" Incan songs? Maybe traditional Peruvian and Bolivian folklore, but not original songs from that region and period.

If falalan isn't in, I expect at least a zillion threads protesting within about .001 seconds of the games release.

Seriously though, if it is not broken why fix it? The EU2 music was the best I've ever heard in game, except maybe CIV III. I don't see why the current songs won't do well enough.

I'd like to hear some regional/cultural music from places other than western Europe. Pragmatic considerations can limit this to a few broad regions:

- Western Europe: Good old EU2 style music.
- Eastern Europe (Russia, slavic areas, etc.): a wealth of music here.
- Africa & native America: no real contemporary music survives, but there's lots of music in that general sort of "tribal" theme.
- Far East & India: tons and tons of this stuff around.
- Turkey and Arab areas: again, lots of stuff here.

I'd be happy with those five broad categories. It could be rather inexpensive to too, I'd imagine. Quite sure there's a lot of public domain performances, as well as very inexpensive licenses.

I thought the music in CK and HoI 2 was awful (I was hoping for some Jazz and of course the famous Nutzi land song). EU 2 music was awesome totally imersing me in the game. Even my Mom thought I was doing something dignifying (Like cutting down Russians with my mighty Polish Cavalry

). HelL they can keep the old soundtrack + add some new songs.

Dam I was gona make a thread on this...

Anyhow, my notion was also of culture/area specific music. Maybe even event specific - you can't have the USA without John Philip de Souza and you can't have the French revolution without La Marseillaise.
If it really comes from the epoch or just manages to represent the spirit well is prety indiferent to me.

For Russia I'd sugest something you can find in most less-then-absolutly-super-hiper-legal search engines under the name of "Rider's March", but heck, I'd probbaly play it with the goo'old soviet anthem just a well.

For Portugal, maybe some Dazkarieh would be apropriate (check "downloads" and the stuff under "eldest") - not really that old, but sounds like it, and mostly based on folklore.
Also, "armada portuguesa" from galician Cristina Pato is a small nice mp3 for a portuguese discovery game.

and while I'm ranting, a Papal States game should be all played with Handel on the background.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, except for the CIV III part. IMHO, they should at least leave the sound track alone. They can mess with everything else to get it closer to perfection than we had with EUII, but when something is perfect (like the sound track), you can't out do perfect. I vote for keeping the sound track 100% identical to the EUII soundtrack. And you know that if its not, I'll be fixing that for my copy the minute I buy it!

You'd better believe it we do. I have megs and megs of MP3 files of this stuff. (I'd share, but, hey, it's protected by copyright). In my opinion, a lot of this stuff (especially choral works by Palestrina and Josquin Des Prez) is among the most beautiful music ever written.

I had assumed that for some reason PI was no longer able to use licensed music (didn't want to pay for it?). I would love period/culture-specific music, but I have little hope for it. I don't mean to be offensive, but the HOI2 track was redundant and not aesthetically pleasing.

Even HOI1 was better--nothing got the blood flowing better than Wagner's ol' ride when you're invading France and watching those British bombers be smashed to pieces by the Luftwaffe.

It was not music, it was a literary work which would later be adapted to music (in the 20th century).

I'm moderately indifferent with respect to music, just as long as I can edit the playlist. Oh, and my favorite EU music . . . the soundtrack to "1492" by Vangelis. It's appropriate to the time period, and, of course, it's Vangelis . . . doesn't get much better than that.
