music skipping

I have noticed a brief skip in the music every couple of minutes. It sounds almost like a little scratch in an old vinyl record. I don't remember exactly when it started - either after Old Gods or the India expansion. But it definitely wasn't happening before that and I've played quite a bit. I thought it might be pausing for the autosave but I turned it off and it still skips. I also completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game fresh and updated sound/video drivers and that didn't help either. I was hoping the new expansion would fix it but no luck. Any help is appreciated. I have attached my settings file and dxdiag for reference.

Does it happen whether you use your Realtek or nVidia audio output?

Is it just music, not sound effects or ambient sounds?

What if you play music - from the game or not - in the background in WMP or iTunes or whatever , does it still happen?

it is just the music not the sound effects as far as I can tell. and it is only in-game, it doesn't happen to the music on the menu screen. it is a very brief skip/pause in the music once every 1-2 minutes. the faster I turn the game speed - the more frequently it occurs. on max speed it happens every 5-10 seconds or so. nothing else is (noticeably) affected except the music.

I don't know how to play the music out of the game I found the music files but WMP doesn't seem to recognize them. And my speakers use the realtek output - I think the NVidia only works if I had speakers built in the monitor.

You can play .ogg files in WMP, there's a plugin or something - google it.

But just play any music in WMP while the game is playing with no sound - does it skip?

No - music from WMP plays fine and does not skip.

Do you get this in EU3, Eu4, Rome, Vic2, or even in any non-PDS games?

no issues like this in any other games. And I played for a long time with no issue I only noticed it recently. And it is really annoying.

It almost seems like a brief pause when the game is calculating something in the background. But I have plenty of memory.

Bizarre - why this one game then? I frankly have no idea, I thought it was going to be contention between your video and sound cards/drivers for resources. But that would affect, say, EU4 also.
I guess just play the music in WMP or similar ...

I also have the same problem with sound skipping. It happens when the game is unpaused but doesn't t happen when it's paused. Also the same problem is starting to happen with EU4 also. Never had this problem before.

I think it happened after the Charlemagne update. I have all the DLC content for CK2 & most of the DLC for EU4. I have 120 hours of playing time on CK2 & 88 hours of playing time on EU4. No problems before December 2014. Everything else works fine just unpaused music skips. Even with this problem CK2 & EU4 still 2 of the best games on the market. Thanks for listening.

Same issue with me. The music has started skipping when the game is unpaused, the faster the speed of the game the more prevalent the skips. It was fine before and this is the only game that has this issue on my PC.

I see you have it with EU4 as well as CK2. The OP of this thread specifically did not have that, his EU4 worked fine. So yours is a different problem.

You can see the kind of info that was provided and asked for in this thread, but you haven't attached any such files. Did you need help on obtaining that info or something?
