The entire soundtrack of Civ V Beyond Earth (though I will probably listen to Stellaris' OST in my first playthrough). I mean, regardless of what Beyond Earth was like as a game, it is undeniable that it had some pretty fantastic soundtrack.

That, or I will listen to Al Stewart.

It is quite different from our other soundtracks and I tried to give it a Stellaris identity of its own. I was given the time to experiment to find what would fit without being sci-fi cliché. Lots of music was thrown away to finally get what we were after. Loads of music in this soundtrack though.

Cant wait to share the music with you guys.

Wait, you did the EU4 music? I love "Travel the New World" so much that I will go out of my way to grab one colony just so that song comes up in the rotation.

Some of the music from EVE Online would fit in well.

Agreed, that music was amazing and very ethereal. Although it probably fits better with flying around in your single EvE ship than managing an empire in Stellaris.

Hopefully you will not think its a typical sci-fi soundtrack. Ive tried to make Stellaris have a distinct soundtrack, like I said... I want to hear if I made something right when it is released.. It will have orchestral elements for sure, but it is usually to give it my own kind of colour and instrumentation. Alot of different instrumentation was used.

Agreed as well, I was an EVE online player when I went to university, still can hum some of those ambient tracks. Stellaris is not as ambient as EVE though. But thats just the way I write music.

I am one of those guys who has spent countless hours looking for, editing and converting music for CKII and EUIV to put into music mods for different cultures, religions, occasions (peace/battle).
I will probably do the same with Stellaris to perfect my game experience.

Now my question is: Which music will you put into the game?

I was thinking of

• some tracks from Battlestar Galactica (reimagined series) OST (I love the series, but only like a limited number of tracks from McCreary)
• some Star Trek tunes (again just a limited number, like DS9 and Voyager themes, I am not a Star Trek fan)
• Michael J. Burkard has composed some nice space themes
• Antti Martikainen has composed some nice SciFi themes
• on Groupees there is right now a bundle available that has the complete OST for Starbound (you can prelisten the tracks) and boy, is it good! this music actually made me think of the imminent (well, more or less) release of Stellaris and thus made me start this topic
• some tracks from the OST of Chaos Gate (a Warhammer 40,000 video game) are usable
• Dune and Children of Dune miniseries OST is also a suitable candidate
• probaly a lot more, this is just a small selection

Caution - I am Star Trek fan (and particularly the soundtrack to Wrath of Khan) , so there's a bit of that in there, although I haven't 'tested' this much (ie, listened to it for hours while playing GSGs) so there may be some tunes in there that don't work, which will get removed as this becomes clear.

Although im also a sucker for Star Trek music, especially the Goldsmith era of soundtracks.
Homeworld, the Samuel Barber "Adagio for Strings" choral version at the beginning really stuck with me eventhough I havent played it in ages.

I can't wait to hear what you've come up with . What I do with all my PDS games is to listen to the soundtrack of the game exclusively while I play for the first 50-100 hours, and then put together a Spotify playlist with the soundtrack plus other music that works with it so that you still get plenty of Waldetoft awesomeness, but it's spaced out with other stuff so there's a bit of variety. Am hoping Stellaris' soundtrack will end up on Spotify so can do the same.

That's why I said "if the game has," and "probably." Of course I'm going to listen to it first, whether I like it or not I will find out then.

Let's get this started.
We have Freelancer, a classic. While not the best OST for a Sci-Fi space game, still ok.

While no game Stellardrone makes really good Sci-Fi themed music.

Not necessary a good game, but the Darkstar One soundtrack got something. It's more aggressive and warlike.

Something more obscure. A sometimes unpolished but really interesting game.

The old and new classic.

Jake Chudnow got some stuff neat stuff for a space game.

I don't know if I am allowed to post this here, but the EvW soundtrack on YouTube got some Sci-Fi sounds that are good. I won't link it here tho, don't want any problems with the moderators.

Further, the best OST for any Sci-Fi game. Can't beat Alexei Zakharov.

Can you give us a full song soon? The main theme and some of the in-game tracks sounded like something I could spam for 24 hours straight.
