Music no longer works

So same people having the same problem that started with the new games (or updates) is our "fault"? I think not. I think Paradox has changed something in the code? And that causes it? Its not just possible that I play HOI2 and then start playing EUR and the MUSIC doesnt work.

My EUR is an impulse version, but dont really think that is the problem, because the HOI3 demo doesnt work. But if it is my problem. I dont know what to do anymore, I have updated installed, reinstalled and done everything? I am puzzled.

Install a latest version of some audio player recently? Install another kind, set all your music to that and see if it works

I'm with Victius.

It's only my later Paradox games that won't play music. EU3 and Rome. Plus Take Command 2nd Manassas which was distributed by Paradox.

It's just weird, and must be some specific thing that Paradox games look to or try to start or whatever. Other games e.g. Ageod's, Civ, Combat Mission, TOAW play music fine.

Sure there's a workround by playing the music through Windows Media Player, but if I'm going to do that I might as well play bloody Abba if I want a Swedish theme!

So, any clues guys? We are not alone. There's just not many of us and the Paradox team are seemingly inundated with more serious bleating about HOI3. We are like casualties in triage, in pain but won't die so left whilst the more serious cases are attended to. Ouch.

Plus, I'm approximately 99% certain that everyone with the funny music problem has windows xp. Haven't figured it out yet though...

I got this today:

"Hi,

We have seen a few cases of no music, but most of them seem to be fixed by installing different codecs. (Then we have a bug where you get music for a few minutes, and then it stops. This we have no solution for yet.) If you want to try codecs, this seems to work if you run vista:
VistaCodecs v536
Another user recommends K-lite v3.7.
My suggestion is that you try a few different codec packs and see if any of them works.

The dev team all uses vista and have no special codecs installed, so plain windows codecs should work too.

I think Berk has something there, we all DO have XPs.. Something fishy. Anyway I am uninstalling all my codecs and see what happens.

I think I did

Hi I had this problem too. I have Xp with SP3. I have downloaded the K-Lite Codec Pack (the newest 5.0.5 version).

It solved the problem. But not the normal, the MEGA version, and when installing it choose the "Lots of stuff" option, and restart your system. It fixed the music issue with Hoi3, with Eu3, and with Rome also.


I have uninstalled every other codec before this, I think you should do it too.

Meaning I did the same and it work for me TOO. Guys remember to REBOOT then it starts working! But it works REALLY! no kidding!!

Goodness knows what I've got on my PC now as it seemed to try and download from a Russian site, but it stalled so I went to an Italian mirror.

Anyway, all games seem to have their music back, so all is well with the World.

Molace.... Wow. Thank you sooooo much. Nearly had a heart attack when i heard the music. This has been bugging me for days. How did you figure it out? If i could hug you i would. Installing the newest ffdshow solved my problems.
