After upgrading my computer CK2 now runs very fast, but i get some really annoying music stuttering when i play at full speed. The music skips and is broken up. It's almost like the music can't keep up with how fast the game is moving. It's completely fine when i'm paused. Hope you manage to fix this somehow.

Please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the end of the "Sound devices" section for brevity) and your Documents/CK2/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ directory, post system.log . What version # and checksum do you see a/ in the launcher and b/ in the main game menu?

That sound driver is really old, but being MS I don't think there's any updates for it.

If you turn sound off and play music in the background, say WMP, does the same happen?

Do you get this in EU4 also?

The sound/speakers is the one thing i didn't bother to upgrade and it worked fine on CK2 with the old machine.

It doesn't happen if i play it in VLC, or in EU4 or any other paradox game.

I see plenty of other is having this problem now, so i hope you are investigating if one of your patches did this.

Edit: I rolled back to 2.2.1 trough steam and it doesn't happen. It's clear that you have done something between that and this patch. Probably this latest one.

OK, I've been back several pages here and I can find these reports:

crukin - CK2, only, started in 2.3, only happens in-game
Driver Name: HdAudio.sys

Gantolandon - 2.3, probably CK2 only, intermittent, only happens in-game
Driver Name: stwrt64.sys

dyrk - started in 2.3.2 (2.3 was OK), only happens in-game
No Driver given

AnthonyD98 - 2.3, CK2 and EU4, intermittent, happens when external music is played too, disappeared when changed to a different audio output channel
Driver Name: vrtaucbl.sys

IlliniPete - 2.2.x, CK2 only, only happens in-game
Driver Name: RTKVHD64.sys

joeyd - 2.3, CK2 and EU4
No Driver given

rdbraptor - 2.3, no further details
No Driver given

I don't see any posts about this in Bug Reports after about August last year.

Of those 7 cases, one (AnthonyD98) is virtually certainly a hardware/driver fault. One (rdbraptor) is too vague to say anything. Of the remaining five 2 happen in EU4 and CK2 and the other three CK2 only. One is intermittent and the other 4 aren't. Three started in 2.3, one in 2.3.2 and one in 2.2.x. Every known sound driver involved is different.

So while it's not impossible you are right and this is a new bug in 2.3-ish, it's very inconsistent in when it started and what games it affects. It clearly is not a particular sound driver and therefore not particular sound hardware.

You mention it was OK on your old machine. Under what patch level was that? Do you have access to it still (or any other machine) to try 2.3.2?

It only happens at max speed so my laptop will be too slow to compare to. I think the last patch i played on was the one for Rajas of India. I tried using my headphones to see if it was the speakers, and it doesn't happen on the headphones. I don't understand why this is the only game this happens on or why it doesn't happen in previous patches, but the problem is on my end it it seems. Maybe a sign to find some new speakers. Thanks for helping out again.
