Multiple forms of alliances

I think there should be multiple forms of alliances. This could range from aggreements to declare neutrality in a war if you're not the aggressor to being the ally of an alliance. In World War I for example, Turkey was on the side of the Triple Alliance (Germany, Austria-Hungary, and (origanaly) Italy) but wasn't a member. I also think that you should be able to be in multiple alliances. This would be similer to the alliances of unified Germany during the time of Otto von Bismark.

I think this will not be the case...multiple alliances that is... I think EU explained it by saying the politics of the time were not as complex as they were in the later ers...such as WWI like you speak of.

I am not saying I want to see multiple alliances in the game, the AI might go crazy, but many of you underestimate the power of diplomacy in the era. Diplomacy has always been complex. Diplomacy has not advanced over time, the increase in technology that allows communication has advanced.

All I really want is a "offer/ask for neutrality" option. During the time after Otto von Bismark (yes, I AM obsessed), Germany could have dominated the planet if they could get England to declare neutrality. I also want it so you have to hold together an alliance, such as the "Three Emperors" alliance between Austria-Hungary, Germany, and Russia.

The problem is that you will have to wait for a modern history game! Unless you can start spouting off lots of examples relavant to the period that is.... good luck.

I hope someone else can, I'm not very familiar with the late midevil, early renaissance period when it comes to diplomacy.

I agree with Blade!. Some of you people are trying to make this Pre-Modern era game far too complex for its time. The alliances you speak of start WAY after the end of this game.

Although it may have been informal, you can't deny that at least once before the Unification of Germany someone said, "If I declare war, will you stay neutral?"

Unless you can give an example of this, Conquerer, I really don't think it would be a good idea (or even a historical one) to implement this in the game.

There are examples, of course. AFAIK, Francois I before embarking on his (eventually) failed Italian campaign had bought off neutrality of several countries, including Spain.
