Im trying to play hoi4 with my mate, i bought the game om microsoft store, he bought it on steam, but we cant seem to connect to each other, i tried to link our account's to microsoft (xbox) and steam so i would look that it would pare, but it didnt. please help, i dont know what to do.

Multiplayer between the different store versions is still not possible. Where the steam store page says "Featuring cross-platform multiplayer" it just means between Windows/OSX/Linux.
